First 600 meters in downhill,
Then the climb up to the turn down the course.
As far as XC goes its pretty flat.
The quick climb up to the starting line usually is the breaker on the FSU course.

If the course were one big loop with five hills, I think there would be more appreciation of the overall hilliness.
At the moment, the course record is 36 seconds slower than Terre Haute's.
The weather forecast keeps on changing but it looks like there will be rain during the men's race.

Is Derrick even running?
Touche'!
Derrick was entered and then now is un-entered.
Too bad. He used to be a great US XC runner and now is a mediocre US marathoner.
I miss the old Chris Derrick... : (
Well, that was a pretty unkind statement. I'm always curious as to know what kinds of people make disparaging comments like this. Just curious, how old are you? What type of work are you in? What type of pr's/experience with t and f do you have?
How many mary's has Derrick ran and what's his PR?
This could be a team that wins worlds- both men and women.
Abbabiya Simbassa also went through high school here in the US. Biya ran track his Junior year for Bloomington Kennedy HS in Minnesota, and ran xc/track his senior year for Sioux City, Iowa. Both Stanley Kebenei and Abbabiya Simbassa both ran for Iowa Central Community College at the same time.
Why don't we have our qualification race on a course that is at least somewhat similar to the actual worlds course? How can USATF suck so bad at making decisions like this. We are going to send the wrong team to words and we will get destroyed.

Andrew Hunter adidas / Tinman Elite..... not in the top 20
Certainly should be.
His 3:35 1500m is competitive base speed with anyone in the field and his HS career showed that his talent is at distance.
He's 21 1/2 years old. Salazar was only a few months older when he ran 2:09 at NYC.
It's not as though 10000m should be too far for Hunter and there's a good chance the race will be tactical and effectively shorten the competitive distance.
How does one gain entry into this trial?

What does Salazar, a distance specialist, have to do with Hunter's ability to run 10k xc right now?
These fields are absolutely rocking. It's really too bad nobody has figured out how to put running out there as a product to the general masses. Last weekend, there were a ton of sports & non sports on TV that cannot have huge viewerships (snowboarding, cornhole, billiards, bowling, etc.). It's disappointing that races cannot just go on a tv slot like those things and are behind a paywall that really won't get that many people to watch. Without the paywall you would have double, triple the audience, and could sell ad space.
Oh, and I'm already prepping for Gaulty 7 the brojos to drop America born left & right in their previews & recaps. Prove me right!!

Thanks! I wasn't aware Simbassa ran at a US high school.
Let's hype up this women's field. There are 4 current US record holders, and an NCAA record holder. When was the last time there was a women's field like this for xc champs?

Hunter certainly has the talent to be competitive but has dealt with injuries the last several months on top of this being his first xc race since high school.
For as much crap as the xenophobes on the message boards give the "naturalized" Americans, at least we can count on them to run at World XC. If a runner has no intention of running World XC, why should anyone hope they run well at USAs?

Deadline to register was last night.

It does favorably compare to any USA women's XC field going back a number of years. When Flanagan was at her best, she brought top quality to the field but the races weren't very competitively interesting for the most part.
The Huddle-Houlihan matchup should be the classic strength vs sit-and-kick. Huddle has had some finish line dramatics in her history and we could see it again.

Yeah - Kenya could really give Kenya a run for it’s money. How exciting.
