That's 165 of muscle btw, not a skinnyfat 165.

That's me and I just got down here from 175. I'm quite skinny and running times I haven't seen since my 20s. I'm 44. 32 waist jeans are too small for me now.
I'm the same ht/wt without fat to loose and choose to stay there as loosing muscle isn't going to help me run faster and I don't want to starve myself. With that said, I find my race weight at 160 about 6 weeks out from goal race but don't end up staying there as my body tells me its to lean.
Chris Solinsky
*too lean
Are you really Chris Solinsky? Also I'm the same I was thinking of going down to 160 but hovering around the 165 range the rest of the year.
John Walker was about that height and weight. First man to go sub 3:50 in the mile. Ben True is about that height and weight too. Garrett Heath is another one off the top of my head around that height and weight.
World class? Probably too heavy.
Very good? Certainly not too heavy. New England runner Eric Beauchesne won the Cape Cod Marathon 3 years in a row (2001-2003). His 2002 time was 2:27, which is objectively a good time. He consistently run low 15's for 5K. He was a noticeably big guy for a runner at that level, heavier than you for sure.
Probably need to lose 20 lbs.
Andy Vernon looks a big dude.

I am not Chris Solinsky.
He is the best example of a competitive runner with this build though
I am Chris Solinsky.
It is too heavy if you are not Chris Solinky. I have big bones, and also extremely heavy balls.
I ran 4 years of D1 with about those measurements and lettered at two universities. It depends on how competitive you want to be. Try dropping 5-10 pounds by cutting carbs for a couple months and see how you feel.
What's your diet? Are you increasing protein/limiting carbs after a certain time? I'm actually 6' 177lbs. I find that if I get over 80mpw and leaving chips where they fall(not restricted/diet eating) I get into the high 160s...

Yes it is.

No it's not.

maybe lose 5 pounds, but you should be good. I'm at 5'11.75 162, and like you very low body fat. I don't seem to have any huge issues, but shoes wear out a little quick.
Won't hurt your mile, will probably help your 400/800, will likely hurt your 5000+. I am your same size but was 15 lbs lighter in my youth. I lost 10-15sec (got slower) per mile for 5K on up after I gained the muscle, but could outkick most other guys at my level on the shorter stuff.
At 35 I was 5'10.5" 140
At 55 I was 5'10" 164
I broke 19 at 55 and feel that is about the best I am going to do at that age and weight. By the time I was 50, I no longer was careful about weight, carbs, beer etc. Who cares by then? Am I a guy who's biggest accomplishment in life is running fast?
I'm happy with what I've done. I broke 16 min at 40 and 41. I broke 17 min at 50 to 53. I quit training hard after that. And you know what? I have been happier!! I don't get down after a race with a slow time anymore. I go chat, have a beer, and relive old times, ask how the family is doing. How is your daughter doing in college, blah blah blah

Depends. What's your race? Bone density is different for different races. All those BMI charts that insurance companies and probably your GP use are BS. According to them (black), I'm obese, but if you look at me, it's obvious I've got single digit body fat. It's bad enough my GP can't figure that out just by looking at me and instead seems to be a slave to the charts (all of which were probably formulated using white subjects).
You're an idiot. I can squat 275lbs for 5 reps, deadlift 315 for 5 reps beltless, bench 210lbs, overhead press 155lbs (again, beltless). Nowhere near impressive but it's enough to make your statement nonsensical because I'm not even close to skinnyfat and yes it is a muscular 165.
Just because you look like a skinny version of the Michelin Man doesn't mean everyone else does.
