In part, because of morans like you who propel him into the spotlight with separate-topic forum posts.
Hey, d-bag, look at the other Affolder thread going strong at the moment to see why the f the kid gets so much attention. Reminder (not inclusive):
#1 in the nation right now in the 1600m
#1 in the nation right now in the 2-Mile
#4 in the nation right now in the 1000m
#3 in the nation right now in the 4x800m relay, where his 1:54 opening split gave LV a huge lead, which they did not relinquish
# 1 in the nation right now in the 4xMile relay, where his 3:11.74 anchor gave LV a 37-second victory. It would be #1 in the mile in the nation right now, by nearly two seconds. I think this race was #10 all-time.
Never mind. The guy's a nobody.

Make that 4:11.74.
hate to break it to you mate, but being really fit in January isn't very impressive. Come late may/early june, we'll see who the real top dogs are.
3/4 of the fast kids in the country havent even posted a time yet. No indoor meets for California or Texas high school kids.
Milesplit always has a couple people they obsess about every year. Sam Affolder is the worst in awhile...sure he's highly ranked because it's January, but his times just aren't that fast as far as all-time lists go...1:52, 2:27, 4:08, and 8:59 are top-notch PRs but they act like he's an all-time great when he's just not...unfortunately this class doesn't really have an all-time great, and the closest runners (Nick Foster, Cole Sprout, Matt Payamps, Luis Peralta, Sean Dolan) either haven't run fast this indoor or haven't gotten much coverage (When Affolder ran 2:27 the day after Dolan ran 2:25, Milesplit announced Affolder's as US #1).
Sam is the goat. Wake up. He has fast times now and will finish the spring with us#1 in everything from the 800 through the 2 mile and everyone will be devastated.
He won’t be the greates of all time but may be the greatest in his graduating class. I will even bet against that. He will probably hit 1:50-4:05-8:52. Guys like Hocker and Bosley may run 4:02-8:46 but Affolder will garner more attention. It’s like the thread about Bednarek who was the top 200 guy in the country last year but he got no attention.
What puzzles me isn't how this kid get so much attention, but how on every post about him there is a legion of people who come to defend him. They have to come here and justify whatever happened, showing insecurity about what anonymous LetsRun trolls say about them on the internet. The Loudoun Valley Defense Force needs to chill a little bit. Your performances will speak for themselves, no need to come here and get whiny...
Stupid posts being strongly rebutted with supporting detail is an approach which should be taken any time a dumba** takes a swipe at any school or individual, not just at a certain runner from a certain VA school. And WHAT DO YOU MEAN PEOPLE LIKE ME ARE TOO WOUND UP, WHINY, AND IN A DEFENSIVE MODE!!!!!!!!

4:06 / 4:06 / 1:51
3x National Champ....to add to the other 4 national titles with LV and a couple with that team in PA. Dam it feels good to be a gangsta
This would not be the kid's fault- it's coaching. Those times are impressive even for June.
