Going through an old box of running stuff I found a paper with the list of races I ran in 1995. Date, race, time, place, award, etc. It also listed the price I paid to enter. Don't know why I recorded it, probably to see how much money I spent in a year on running. Anyway, here was the breakdown:
10K - $10
5-Mile - $10
10K - Bandit Free
5K - $10
5K - $10
5K - $10
5K - $5
5-Mile - $9
5K - $13
5K - $10
3.5-Mile - $13
5-Mile - $12
HM - $20 (Philadelphia Distance Run)
10K - $14 (Great Race)
10K - $10
5K - $10
1-Mile - $10
Marathon - $30 (Columbus)
Grand Totals:
1 x 1-Mile = $10
7 x 5K = $68
1 x 3.5-Mile = $13
3 x 5-Mile = $31
3 x 10K = $34 + 1 Bandit free
1 x HM = $20
1 x Mara = $30
15 races for $156 plus the "expensive" half marathon and marathon. I remember wondering if it was worth it to spend $30 for a race. The $206 I spent that year is about equal to the cost of the Boston Marathon now. I think Boston was $50 the next Spring.
$1.00 in 1995 is worth $1.65 today, and yet I can hardly ever find a race for under $30.
