Worth a 1:44? Won by over a second.
Took Deon Lendore's and Carlton Orange's scalps.

1:15 for a speed type like Brazier shows he is in 1:45/1:46 shape.
Every year Letsrun gets excited by 600m times in January/Feb.
When Cas Loxom ran 1:14 indoors the predictions from letsrun for his outdoors 800m performance ranged from 1:42 down to the WR.

So thats what happened to Carlton Orange. I wondering where he went after his Sophomore year at Arkansas.
The guys under 1:15 (Cas, UTEP guy I forgot his name, Harris) are very good 400 guys, better than Brazier it seems. So for Brazier to run 1:15.4 is a very good sign for him. Didn't he run 1:45 indoor last year? I'd expect that right out the gate for him and probably 1:44 if he competes in more than one 800 this season.

Korir is the only one who is a "very good 400 guy." He has run 44.x, the rest have never broken 47.
You miss the point. Not much difference between those guys on a 4x400 leg.
These days 45+ is required for a world class 800
2019 will be a long year. World Championships this year. IMO, guys/gals who doubt they will do well at Olympics &/or W.C. should be the one's into being indoor track & field heroes. D.B. has gotten us excited during winter indoor season in previous years. Save it for outdoors D.B.

Except Cas Loxsom never ran near 3:59 for a mile indoors.
It IS an Opener unless you can prove otherwise - an impressive one at that. That's all it is.
Agreed, although pro runners racing fast indoors this season makes more sense than in years past. Given the time frame for USA's (both indoors and outdoors), there is ample time to take a couple down weeks and reset before outdoors gets going. I would worry more about collegians with potential to make the world team running too fast too early than pros.

This is /thread
To summarize:
1) 1:15 is good. He's in 1:45 shape. That's good for Jan.
2) LRC _DOES_ get way too excited about indoor 600 times
3) Re (2) See Cas a few years ago
We know D.B. has high 46/low 47 400m speed. I am not one who is an advocate of high mileage for 800m specialists but I hope Brazier is going on weekly 15K long runs.
I would bet he's doing something to that effect. Still don't have official confirmation as to whether Julian or Salazar is coaching him but my guess is Julian is overseeing his training. Didn't he run a 15min 5k while in high school?
15k might be overcooking it. Might be around 13k every two weeks

I am going to talk about this race in our WTW .
1) The key thing is he's racing again. Achilles are always dicey. The nice thing is we know Salazar won't F around. He'll get surgery if he needs it. He can use the same surgeon that Rupp (and yours truly) had.
2) John Kellogg equates is to a 1:46.39 800.
3) It was his first race in 323 days.

Double peak in 2019 for NOP. Just like most every other year.
I guess its not time to stick a fork in him.

Korir is certainly better than the rest over 400m, but Brazier and Harris both have 45.XX FAT 4x4 splits to their name. I think Harris has a 44.X high also. None of these guys except korir have really gave the open 400m honest tries.
And to the first poster who implied brazier isn’t a 400/800 type based on what we know so far...lol.

Pretty sure Al is coaching him
Salazar:
Rupp, Murphy, Kejelcha, Hasan, Hasay
Julian:
Osako, Jenkins, BRAZIER, Engels, Rowbury, Klosterhalfen.
No mystery behind it. Just have to ask. Salazar mostly stays in Oregon these days and Julian tends to be on the road at camps and competitions. When athletes are in Oregon, it’s common to see Alberto timing Julian’s athletes and visa-versa for when Alberto’s athletes are in Europe or at camp.
Salazar seems to have finally found a couch in Julian that he can trust and respect. However, it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few years. I could see Nike closing the NOP chapter when Salazar elects to retire. In many ways it’s “mission complete.”
Julian could be out on the street, but with his stable of athletes growing, Nike would likely keep him around to keep Schumacher on his toes.
2) John Kellogg equates is to a 1:46.39 800.
What does Kellogg say the current 800m record equates to for 600m (current WR is 72.80)? If I assume it to 69.9 sec that's 23.3/23.3/23.3!!
Seems strange that his formula adds almost 31 sec on to their 600m time. As a rule of thumb, I've normally just added 30sec - but we you look at the all-time list, it's actually a little less that 30sec
600m all time list
1 1:12.81 Johnny Gray 1:42.60 ( +29.79)
2 1:13.10 David Rudisha 1:40.90 (+27.80)
3 1:13.21 Pierre-Ambroise Bosse 1:42.53 (+29.32)
4 1:13.28 Duane Solomon 1:42.82 (+29.54)
5 1:13.49 Joseph Mutua 1:43.33 (+29.84)
Also, was a formula can't not tell you is how the athlete hit that mark. Given Brazier ran splits of 24.64/25.65/25.17 I can guarantee you his run is worth a lot more that 1:46.39

'Equates to' is different to an estimate of the 800m time. Kellogg is saying it's of the same quality as 1:46.
1:15 might equate to a 20.5 200m. That doesn't mean it's a prediction of 200m performance. Or a 2:10 marathon. Or a 75m javelin.
