We've all seen the muscular sprinters. The capped delts, the horse-like legs, the chiseled arms.
What about those of us running the mile, the 5k, the 10k, and the marathon? Can we retain any sort of muscle and still be competitive?
We have outliers like Alan Webb, but let's be real here - most of the top runners over 800m look downright emaciated.
I'm 6 foot and 180 pounds. I would consider myself to have a medium build, but lean and muscular. Can I become a good runner without becoming scrawny, or is it pretty much necessary for me to be competitive at any sort of level in the multi-K events?
