I’ve ran a 53.8 400 and a 23.7 200. Do I have enough speed to go sub 52? What 200m time should I aim for if that’s not enough? (And what should I do to improve it?)
Thanks.

You should be close. I ran high 51s with the same 200 time. The difference is having the strength to get through the last hundred meters with less fading.
As a quick rule of thumb, double your 200m time and add 5 sec. The would give you a 400m time of 52.4 sec. So it looks like you are real close.
My PR was 50.04 with the same 200m PR as you. So you definitely have enough speed, if you are a distance runner like I was, so more strength based than speed based.
Easily. I ran 50.xx in a relay with a 23.9 open 200 last year (I am a middle distance runner though).

You have more than enough speed. I've run ~50.XX mid and my fastest 200m was 24 flat (albeit during practice in a workout).
Thanks for all the replies - I definitely feel like I need to work on my strength and the last 150m of my race.
Sub 26
Sub 24
I was 24.3 and 51.6 (not fresh)
