Obviously against. I don't know what the point of doing a straw poll on LRC is like we're a representative bunch. We're largely white and male.
Some recent polling showed:
Trump approval- 41%
Who is to blame for the government shutdown- Trump 55%, Trump + Republicans 66%, Democrats 33%
Build the Wall- 41%
Allowing DACA immigrants to become citizens- 83%
America does not want the wall and 2 in 3 blame Trump/the GOP for the shutdown. The numbers are drastic when you look at political party, race, and gender. You could also make a good argument that the midterms were a referendum on Trump's rhetoric in this arena.
Also my actual pitch for conservatives is this: Stops at our southern border are already at a 40 year low. What happened to fiscal conservatism? Why would we spend billions of dollars on something we don't need when we could take that money and invest it in American workers, on jobs, education, health care, things we need. Why spend money on something we don't need? That's usually what the critique of Democrats is.
((also aside -- why didn't you just build the wall when you controlled the presidency, the senate, and the house? Republicans are currently preventing thousands of workers from doing their jobs & earning a living. That's despicable.))
C'mon folks. Just because Trump says we need a wall it doesn't have to be a 50/50, equal airtime kind of thing. The reality is that border stops are at an all time low & Trump wants to use this as a wedge issue for his base to buy into. He wants his base to buy into his bigotry and blame their problems on immigrants. What we should do is demand an investment in workers all over this country. Trump wants us to be mad at immigrants instead of paying attention to his tax cuts. What we need is a government that works for all of us instead of Trump and his wealthy friends. We should ignore all things that have to do with the wall and demand that our government be open and take on things like jobs, education, and health care.
