yea, and for women they put Gwen Jorgensen at number 4, and Mary kietany at 23rd.... they also said that the selection process was all about what they had done in the last 12 months... not trying to bash Gwen but has she won anything important? other than beating some college girls I don't think she has... so why is she nearly 20 spots ahead of kietany?? maybe if you could include her achievments as a triathalete, but those were not in the last 12 months so they were a non factor. also Emma Coburn is at number 9 but the woman who set the WR in 2018 is no where to be found??
SI stinks at this- they probably messed it up like they did in running in half the sports.
I get they want to showcase all sports people, but for ultra-running?
Xavier Thevenard is the fittest and most dominant in 2018.
I never got past the golfer with the gut
Got to laugh at all those basketball players being rated as "fittest". I think there are a lot of other sports in the world that demand greater overall fitness.
Does anybody exist outside USA/europe?
Very US-centric. Nobody outside the US knows or cares about basketball or american football.

Not like they had a couple of African runners on the list, one Mexican boxer and some guy from New Zealand.
Of the many things that invalidate the list, putting someone convicted of doping in the last year on there has to be the worst.
SI is still around?

That New Zealander is Fit AF. 2 olympic champ in rowing. And working up to a top level TT cyclist. The amount if power he produced on the water and the rowing machine was unreal. Unmatched for anyone his size.

SI is very US-centric. I was surprised they had so many non Americans on the lists, about a third. For SI this is revolutionary. A while back they did a feature on the 100 top Olympians - only 2 were not from the States, Abebe Bikila and Paavo Nurmi I believe.
No surprise. SI doesn't hire people that care about non ball sports enough to know what they are talking about. On the men's side the UFC fighter they put is McGregor? The guy literally can't go hard for a full fight and he is somehow the most fit of MMA male fighters? What a joke. I honestly don't know how low the bar is for getting a job as a sports writer.

cough cough LetsRun Editorials cough cough ;)
Id like to see Kipchoge run the R2R2R as fast as Walmsley. I’d like to see Kipchoge run WS sub 16hours even. I’d like to see Kipchoge run 100 miles and then participate in a beer mile as fast as Walmsley! Walmsley is GOAT
so many things wrong with the list. whether your team Walmsley or Kipchoge, cmon. how are NBA players more fit than a 2 hour marathoner and a 100 mile runner? please Sports Illustrated why don’t you put an “e-sports” athlete as #1. also US centric much? take any endurance sport and it’s top athletes from any country and we can agree they are more athletic than some basketball players or even a fking golfer.
This list is so bad. It’s like ranking for the sake of ranking.

And I like to see Walmsley running a 1:04 Half Marathon.
They seemed impressed that Walmsley ran more than 4000 miles per year. Wonder how many Kipchoge ran.
The only purpose of these lists is to get people to read them and then argue about the results. It is impossible to come up with a definition of "fit", much less derive competitions to test this "fitness", and then get all the world's best athletes to compete in this competition.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
