You'd think there'd just be a generic Tipping App by now.

How is Denver -to- Cleveland international airspace??
Because its above the law
I'd rather tip the pilot when he lands me safely at night in difficult windy conditions. But the coffee servers deserve it more.

I flew Spirit Airlines recently, the self described cheapest airline ever.
Cheap fare, but gawd awful conditions on a 4 hour flight.
Really tight seats, no reclining, no food or drinks, no movies, no internet/wifi, no magazines, line for toilet the whole flight...
Stewardess described the life vest, then joked if we land in the ocean youll probably be on your own, and watch out for sharks.
When the plane landed the pilot said, " well, we made it. "

When is anyone ever "legally required" to tip?

Yeah, that is why Russia normally runs fighter jets between Denver and Cleveland at 16,000 ft.

Given a choice between a cheap fare with no amenities and a better flying experience that costs most US flyers usually go with price.
People have a choice, although domestic first on US carriers is still just tolerable.

When you're in the united states you are legally required to tip. I think the law was introduced during the HW admin as part of the "kinder, gentler america" thing and no one ever tried to get rid of it. Why on earth would you tip unless your were required to?

That's nonsense. A tip by definition is voluntary. If I don't tip a waitress will I be prosecuted by the establishment? What about tipping bell hops, airport bus drivers that help me with my bag, hair stylists, etc? Is it against the law for me not to tip them?
I tip to show I appreciated the service and because it is the custom. If you are a troll, then you got me.
A tip is a type of tax, at least if SCOTUS says so.
If I get a voucher for an inflight meal from a delay, can I apply the leftover to the tip?

There is, it's called Venmo.
Double what you would tip if you were going to Detroit.

That's not a tipping app.

What a racket. Hope Trump abolishes this already
If you don’t tip then see if you get a life vest if the plane has to ditch or if you get any oxygen in your mask if it drops. You’re a cheap creep just for asking the question.
the custom of tipping was started by the Pullman railroad company employing ex-slaves. Since the company could get away with it, they didn't pay the porters, but asked customers to tip them instead. Most of the porters were called George whatever their name happened to be.

So when tipping, just think of the proud and glorious history of tipping, and why the custom is spreading now, in the richest country in the history of the world..
15% is what I usually do for a cup of coffee, paid with self-loathing.
