The two that come to mind for me are Chattanooga TN and Richmond VA. I was looking forward to those places as historical landmarks back when I was into studying the civil war. Both are sad, depressing places that I hope to never set foot in again.
Over the last twenty years Chattanooga has revitalized its downtown, which is now inviting, full of good restaurants and entertainment, and parking. It has a nice waterfront trail system and is a good outdoors city, close to great cycling, running, hiking, rafting, climbing. You’re welcome to stay away, but it’s a great little city.
