One other point although I generally agree with the above post, triple jump shoes are built up in the back, not the front, so they actually make it easier to stay low on takeoffs, not get higher. So if you are not triple jumping, stay away from triple jump shoes.
They're built up in the heel because otherwise your heel would explode if you are jumping right. The last phase is pretty similar to LJ, other than arm technique.
Anyway, agreement that it's worth buying LJ spikes for the reasons stated, they're better suited and the sand wont ruin your sprint spikes.
If your son is in his final year and not very good, maybe consider just sticking to the two pairs, though.
Also, dont stick with one brand, I cant think of any reason to do that unless you're sponsored. Try some different ones out if they're available. I know people who love the Adidas LJ shoes, but I hated them and ended up wanting my money and buying bikes after one meet in the Adidas pair. An athlete I coach (woman) went over 21 feet in asics. Different people will prefer different spikes.
Also, he may or may not like the hj shoes. Some elite HJers wear sprint spikes to hj, but most do take advantage of the heel spikes in their HJ shoes. Many hs kids initially feel uncomfortable with spikes in their heels. Make sure he does plenty of circle and figure 8 drills to get used to the feel of those heel spikes.
