Mary k won the New York mini 10k earlier this year in 30:59 as a rust buster and to work on speed. So Dibaba’s time and finish is a good sign that she has gotten faster for the marathon, we shall see in London.
This might be a sign that Obiri might move up to the marathon one day. I remember reading an article on her where she stated that she wasn’t interested in running anything longer than 5000m. I remember Hassan saying the same thing before she got with Alberto, but we knew Alberto was going to push her to run farther. He is big on distance. I wonder if Obiri moved up because Hassan moved up, and will Genzebe do the same thing ? Muir has moved up as well, and Kipyegon will probably move up too. Martinez also moved up to 5000m, which was inevitable, since she does 18 mile long runs routinely.
Next year is going to be crazy between 5000m and half marathon. All women’s fields are deep deep in competition.
