So all this time it was a squirrel making under the porch? This story is confusing.
If it's a raccoon or something bigger then ignore it & let nature run its course. The fox will wait for it to exit & kill it.
Ok here is the Friday morning update. We still believe a racoon is under the house but we caught a squittel in the trap. The squirrel has been freed and is alive and doing well!! The guy I hired came out and let him out this morning. Then he switched the traps. He put the big one right next to the area where I heard the noises. He also said he's going to leave the traps open for the weekend. So there are sugar wafers in there. He said he wants them to get used to eating it. That makes little sense to me but imagine he didn't want to catch one tonight and have it sitting in a cage cruelly all weekend. So I'll update you if I see any signs of them eating the bait. Now on to the post below depresses me.

So you have more than three raccoons in your local area. Within a half-mile of your house I bet you have 40 of them living in various places just like me.
As for me doing it myself, Where the hell am I going to take them to drop them off? I figured it was better to have a pro do it but didn't realize there are 35 others waiting for the penthouse apartment to open up. Your theory might make sense. Maybe all the noise I heard was raccoon hissing at another to stay away from his sweet spot.

I would have caught the thing with my bare hands.
A bit embarrassing that he doesn't know the difference between we're and were.

Careful, it could be a bare in your twap, HoJo.
The only way to solve critter problems is sealing off the areas in question. I realize this now after years of having exterminators fail utterly in dealing with our cockroach problems. I sealed off the cracks around the bathtub and sink and the roaches have been largely awol for months now, knock on wood. Same thing with ants invading the kitchen. Previous times I cleaned constantly, killed them, and used diatomaceous earth successfully. In recent months, it did not work at all. I sealed most of the tiles in the kitchen and they have been gone for weeks now.
wejo is a NYer now
rojo is in Maryland

I see what you did there...
Chupcabra for sure
Rojo paid an expert 375$ to catch a squirrel. SUCKER.
Super cute dog, though.
My advice: Stop provoking the animal living under the porch. It probably feels threatened by the even larger, hideously fragrant animal trying to bust through the ceiling. Coexist peacefully.

Folks, not sure if you saw the live broadcast. I looked out my office and saw a redfox coming down the hill. It immediately stopped and started hunting, looking at the trap. It then attacked the trap as something was in there.
What was it?

"That's a f*cking red fox!" 4:37 of the first video - I was surprised by this as this was several minutes after you saw it initially.

Did you mean squirtle? You should have kept it.
https://thegreatnodnarb.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/squirtle.gifRaccoons are smart. Do you think that after seeing that squirrel struggling in that trap for half a day, that it would go near it? Fuggetaboutit!
The thought occurred to me earlier today, as I was walking past some squirrels, why we don't see their turds all over the place, like we do with rats and other small vermin.

That's simply because they're all female and we all know females don't poop. It must be something in there jeans.

Maybe because you live in a rat hole, not a squirrel hole?

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/17/us/grandmother-strangles-bobcat-to-death-during-attack-trnd/index.htmlSo I'm thinking about trying to get my "man" (handy) card back. If I set the trap myself on Sunday evening, will everyone on here - particularly Wejo - respect me?
How hard can it be for me to figure out to make the trap active? That way when the pset guy shows up on Monday , he can take the animal out instead of having to set the trap and come back on Tuesday.
So Letsrun, do you think I can 'snag' this critter myself?

Is it even still there?
Wow, I don't know about Rojo, but that grandma DEFINITELY has her man card...wow.
