3. The death of a longtime devoted animal companion.

Note: It must be a dog or horse. "Emotional support" dogs do not qualify. Cats most certainly do not qualify. I won't even get into fish.

Men cry a lot now. When you get older, just about everything seems poignant to you. Crying is okay. Real men cry. Faux macho men try not to.

I agree with this. e.g. I literally cannot watch Superman (1978), Field Of Dreams, Star Trek II, Rocky Balboa or Once Upon A Time In The West without shedding tears.

I understand, but I think the post was really directed to men, not middle aged women.

2. Birth or death of a son

I think that is about it. Any other emotional moments should be met in silence or swearing.

I reckon I have cried 4 times as an adult. I can say with certainty that it was the best therapy ever, I just needed to get it out and by body knew it. Now does that mean I will cry over the smallest thing, no, however it is better than bottling it up when it really matters.

Without exception, the “anger is the only emotion men are allowed to show” types are the most emotionally fragile people I know.

What does that have to do with it? Plenty of people go get a prescription (or whatever paperwork you need) to allow them to take their existing pet on a plane without paying the exorbitant airline pet fees or to be allowed to bring it into a business/first class cabin.
