Ran a 3k on a gym floor... why
I can't really see why unless it was part of a bigger workout for that day, but I am not sure what running a 3k at a pace slower than her indoor 5k pace would serve. But I suppose they have a reason..........

Um, she is a member of a team. She did not do herself any harm by participating in a team event, did not go deep into the well. Glad to see her be a good teammate.
I get the part about being on a team, but looking at the complete results it seems some of her teammates such as Morales were not there. Perhaps there are other reasons and basically the whole team was there - I don't know.

Because the coach is dumb. No wonder she gets injured so much.

Injured so much? She missed one XC meet this year due to injury and a few days of running. I don’t recall Tuohy missing time or other important races earlier in her career due to injury. You can probably find a history of her races on milesplit or tullyrunners to do more research.
Yeah the 2x national champion is injured sooo often aka once. Even at half effort she could win nationals
This race just seemed extremely unnecessary, why even risk shin splints or something racing on such an awful surface
Probably part of a workout. In the video you can see that she was smiling, meaning it was that serious of an effort.

You must be an absolute weakling.

Do you even run?
A straight 3k at say 8k pace is a perfectly decent effort in December. (And obviously this is within a larger week/cycle/season plan.)
It is a very large flat indoor facility where a number of meets are held each winter for our area. While not as cushy as the Armory, RCC is not considered a bad place for high school meets. This is a BS "controversy" and Brian Diglio is no idiot.

I haven't been there in 13 years but I thought it had an oversized flat track? If it's still the same track it wasn't bad, but a gym floor (like we had at the old Jersey City Armory) is terrible; it literally had dust on it when the meet started lol.
dudes, are you kidding me? RCC is a 300 meter track, rubber if memory serves. Has been one of the main indoor tracks in the section 1 (and 9) region (westchester/rockland/orange counties) for decades. Only since the armory showed up have major meets moved away from RCC. Roughly equivalent to that oversizes track at Washington University where everyone goes to PR and get a qualifier.
The track is not great, that's for sure. Hard, flat and about 250m. That being said, it isn't quite 'gym floor' quality. I saw no harm in her running it, especially since she needs a certain number of meets to be able to run the section meet. While that may seem like small potatoes, it is definitely important to her team and the effort was by no mean maximal. She was laughing and chatting with her coach during the race and looked very much at ease.
RCC surface is not that bad and the turns are very wide. Number of years ago at this same meet some pro guys ran a mile and ran like 4;01 so not that bad a surface.

RCC is a 250m track. While it’s not a terrible track, the Armory and Ocean Breeze are certainly faster tracks and usually have better competition. I wouldn’t say anyone goes to RCC to get a PR in a running event. Tuohy’s race was the facility record for the girls 3k.
Thank you for posting the link. I would never had known about this video without your link. Thank you.

thanks - this makes more sense to me now

As a minimal talent runner I spent the better part of 8 years in high school and college pounding up and down a gym floor at least an hour a day without injury and never ran better than a 51 second 440. What exactly is the problem with running on a wood floor?
