The wall is starting to crack... these corporations doping their marquee runners... it's been a big, big problem for a while.

Iron injections banned? Just drink blood like the Maasai.
Iron doping? Japan keeping it weird.
If the high school kids are injecting iron, you know the pros are injecting EPO.
I guarantee you that there’s a lot of doping in American high school athletics too.
How many times have you seen some anti-African racist on this site assert that the Japanese are “the best clean runners in the world!”? I have nothing against Japan, but of course some of them dope. Athletes from every background do. I’ve known people who’ve tried to buy EPO from Japan.
I don't think there is much story here. There isn't such thing called iron doping. It's just supplementation of iron. For whatever reason they have chosen injection but still it didn't make it illegal.
Doping is a subset of conduct we could call, "coaches pushing their athletes to do unhealthy things in the name of performance." This is about the latter, but not the former. I'm not aware of anyone claiming that the latter doesn't happen in Japan. You could lump iron injections along with coaches pushing their athletes do starve themselves. It's bad stuff, but it's not cheating.
If I were a mad scientist, I would pump up my 100m athletes with one type of drug; I would pump up my Marathon to ultra runner athletes with another type of drug. Drugging for middle-distance, I am sure is an interesting combination of drugs. Japanese men are only world class at the two extremes of track & field. Let them explain why they are world class 100m men and world class Marathoners/ultra runners while Japanese men are sub-par 400m through 3000m athletes.
Japanese specialize in quantity rather than quality. 30 yrs ago they had a zillion 2:10 guys and maybe 1 or 2 sub 2:09 (can't be bothered to look up) now they have a zillion 2:08 and no-one yet under 2:06. If the US had the same marathon obsession and participation rate as the Japanese, they would have numerous sub 2:04 guys and crowds of 2:05's. Japanese body types and running styles are just awful for distance running. Their recent minor improvement reflects PEDS.

Nice try, but i think you meant we've got nobody under 2:05.50.

I won't quibble about whether an improvement is minor or major, though I think you have to acknowledge that Japan has no competition for the title of third best marathoning nation. Japan pretty much as good now as Kenya and Ethiopia were about 15 years ago.
The recent improvement, however, is pretty predictable. In fact, Brett Larner predicted it a couple of years ago (see below). The greatest generation of Hakone runners ever are entering their prime. It would be strange if Japan didn't improve at the marathon despite having a new generation of athletes who could run 62 minute half marathons in college.
http://japanrunningnews.blogspot.com/2016/01/the-shape-of-things-to-come-hakone.htmlYes, because those Hakone runners are the ones that got out of control with microdosing and now it's filtered down to the high school level with iron. Listen, there were bribes to land Tokyo 2020, I could see a doping cover-up by these major corporations because it is their prime form of advertising.

Try to keep up. We have 2:04 and yes, even 2:03 runners. For example, Ryan and Rupp, to name a few. Don't you read letsrun?

Why do say that? Japan's top 2 marathoners are Suguru Osako & Yuta Shitara, who weigh 115 & 104 pounds, respectively. That's about the same size of many top Ethiopians.
How often is this tuohy "girl" tested? She looks pretty muscular
Great post.
I have said for years that the 800 is “undopable” (relatively).
And it is still true.
Show me the big busts among 800 stars.

You totally misunderstood the post.

I bett I can think of one.
