From Max Olson’s article in The Athletic
Nebraska finished the 2018 season with a roster of 137 players. Getting to 150 or more is much easier said than done.
Athletic director Bill Moos says they can get there, but doing so requires staying in compliance with Title IX. Moos does not think Nebraska needs to add another women’s team or eliminate a men’s team to hit 150. He says, in his 26 years as a Division I athletic director, he’s never dropped a sport. For now, Huskers administrators are considering more creative accounting solutions.
“One is making sure the women’s rosters are full,” Moos said. “The other one is taking a good, hard look at some of the men’s programs and if we need as many student-athletes in some of those sports. One that comes to mind is track and field because of the huge numbers; you’ve got cross country folded in that, too. My staff, they’re exploring a couple different avenues that we can take.”
