Gotta go with Dibaba on this one.
Gotta go with Dibaba on this one.
Zapotek would win the race, but Dibaba has already won my heart.
It should be noted that Dibaba has a faster PR
Emil Zátopek (TCH) 3:52.8 winning World Student Games in Paris, 31 Aug 1947
Genzebe Dibaba (ETH) 3:50.07 world record, winning Monaco Diamond League, 17 Jul 2015
Zátopek was not noted for his tactical genius, he was a "go hard" kind of guy, in the same way that John Landy's only tactic against Roger Bannister was to push from the front and try to burn out the speed from his opposition, and we all know how that turned out. interestingly, there was another example of the exact same tactic in a recent thread featuring Henry Rono vs Steve Ovett over 2 miles, in which the kicker also won easily, although he had to run a WR to do it.
and for that reason I doubt this would work for Zátopek against Dibaba whose range is better suited to the 1500m than Zátopek's. over 5000m he would stand a much better chance where his pr is 13:57.0 (Stockholm 3 Sep 1954) vs Dibaba's 14:15.4 (Paris 4 Jul 2015).
over 3000m Zátopek still has an edge, with a pr of 8:08.8 (Brno 18 Aug 1947) vs Dibaba's 8:26.21 (Doha 9 May 2014). so it seems the ideal distance to test them both would be around 2000m.
cheers.
Give Zatopek today's tracks and shoes and he runs 3:48 for sure. Give him Dibaba's drugs and Zatopek runs 3:44. No contest.

Not on dirt while wearing bowling shoes.
Zatopek outkicked a sub 4 miler in a 5k. Dibaba will never do that.
I'd venture a guess Zatopek had a bit more grit as well. Can't see him dropping out or bagging races when things aren't going well like Dibaba has done.

I have a friend with a 4:18 mile PR who outkicked a sub 4 miler and a 4:05 miler so that argument means absolutely nothing.

Re read what he wrote. Zatopek is easily a 3:48 1500m runner on the synthetic track and probably sub 3:40 if he had proper training.

Oh I read it, you're going to need to provide real data to support those times you pulled out of thin air. Taking Dibaba for this one, being 2 seconds faster over the distance.

Czech locomotive ran a 3:52 1500m on a cinder track. Cinder is about one second slower per lap. You do the math.
How many times did Zatopek run 1500 and what is Depobaba's 2nd best 1500m time?
Zatopek would win

Nope, no math needed for this nonsense comparison you've made. If you want to argue the facts, bring some of your own. Dibaba is faster

She can also grow a better mustache.

That cinder is at least one second a lap slower than synthetic is as much a fact as the times they ran. It's also a fact that East Africans have an endemic doping problem, and that Dibaba is more suspicious than most.
Pretty soon it will not only be considered racist here to claim that the greats of the past like Zatopek, Snell, Ryun etc could have lived with today's African GOATs, it will be racist AND sexist to deny that they could even have lived with today's African FEMALE running GOATs.
In 2013 Runners World selected Zatopek as the greatest runner of all time. Zatopek also gave one of his 1952 gold medals to Ron Clarke, because "he deserved it". Zatopek wins in every way that matters.

Making up the times was bad enough but making up a friend too? Come on dude.
Who would win in a 1500? Depends a little bit against who they are running, or not?
I would lap Zatopek. Dead people are really slow
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
