Someone actually said this in a post recently!
What does it take to run under 14 minutes for 5000 metres?
My guesses:
1. The speed to complete 200 metres in under 23.5
2. The endurance to run 5 miles in under 24 minutes
3. Minimum training of over 50 mpw for at least 4 years.
(Including proper periodization for all phases.)
4. Born with superfeet.
5. Natural build of a greyhound.
6. Ball of foot or midfoot landings.
7. Excellent coaching.
