First week back after a 2.5 week break from running after xc season ended. I was recovering from a bunch of major tendon injuries that seem to have resolved. For the most part I kept the pace really easy and listened to my body, as I was making sure that my injuries were truly healed and that the jump back into running didn't cause anymore unwanted issues. I've also been working on running lighter and other form improvements, which has been going great so far.
S: 9.5 miles super easy, threw in 8-10 1 minutes surges just b/c I felt like it. Was going to stop at 7 miles, but I felt amazing and just kept on going. Hilly route with 1300 ft elevation gain. Strength: swiss ball stability, explosive drills, pull ups/other arm stuff for climbing
M: 12.25 miles easy, a bit sore from yesterday, only a few surges today as my overall pace was a bit faster than yesterday. I guess this was more of a long run style. Strength: Core, Hips/glutes with resistance bands
T: AM: 6 hill sprints + 5 miles easy (but hilly) PM: 3.25 miles - Hip Run Workout (from Running Rewired book), which involves running a shortish distance followed by a hip circuit, all repeated a couple times
W: 9 miles similar to Sunday's run. Strength: Stability work, weights.
T: Rest day: No running. Climbed for a long time though.
F: AM: 6 miles easy, except picked up the middle 2 to tempo pace. PM: 3 miles barefoot on the grass, Strength: Weights, explosive stuff, core.
S: 10 miles, explored a new route. Very hilly, around 2,000 feet elevation gain. I live in a hilly area. Strength: Hips, glutes, climbing.
Total: 59 miles
Overall feeling really good. I was a bit sore starting out but not extremely so. I probably ran way too much, but I was trying to listen to my body the whole time. My goals for outdoor track are to go sub 5 in the 1600m and sub 11 in the 3200m. I'm going to probably do aerobic mileage like this week until the first week of February, where I'll start to add in specific intervals when the season starts. I'm trying to work on injury prevention, as I feel pretty traumatized from my tendon issues. I really don't want stuff like that to happen (reflecting back now I'm starting to see all of my mistakes that played into it).
