Got into a bike accident a couple weeks ago and broke my left forearm. Got surgery and the doc said I shouldn't run for a little while. Just getting back into it today, any tips? Male, 18, 4:55 1600m, 35 mpw. Felt pretty sluggish today.

Break a leg!
Did the doctor give you permission to run now? You need their permission first. Always follow doctors orders.
I broke my shoulder and was told no running for several months. In month three when the bone healed I asked the doctor if I could run now. He said "Yes, but don't fall or you'll need surgery". So I was very careful and got to run a lot earlier than expected. Within two months I was running miraculous time. The long layoff apparently rejuvenated my body!
Embrace the pain.
Hope you're trolling, and definitely hope you have doctor clearance. Given the non-zero chance of falling, I'm guessing you shouldn't be.
Figure out how you will keep the cast dry.
Wow they cleared you to run already?
When I had surgery for a broken elbow they didn't let me run till week 6 after surgery, even then I could only run maybe 5-10 min max due to the weird angle my elbow was stuck in after being immobilized for 3/4 weeks.
Supposed to get the hardware removed at some point and they told I should expect no running for 6 weeks after. Apparently all the jostling and up and down movement from running could affect the healing process. Also if you bang into anyone or anything, it's really bad.
I was on the bike on the trainer within 2 weeks of surgery tho!
I had a pretty minor break also from a bike accident almost two years ago. non-displaced fracture of my ulna. looking at my log,I took most of the week off and got back to ~80 miles/week the week after. i was able to run tempo stuff pretty easily but even a 16 second 100 was impossible with the awkward stiffness of the cast (it went above the elbow to prevent me from rotating it). As far as I know, there's nothing wrong with running as much as you can while you still have the cast on. Just make sure you don't fall. You could really mess it up.
Just saw the doctor yesterday and I got the staples taken out of my arm. He says I'm recovering pretty well and that I can run again if I want.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
