I saw this come up a lot in forums already sorry - but wondering whether I shoot for a 3:00 marathon in April (4 months away) or a more conservative ~ 3:10 to avoid the risk of blowing out? Could anyone recommend either based on the following?
This year I managed a 38 min 10k, 1:25 half marathon and 6:35 for a 63.3k ultra. My first and only marathon was two years ago on almost no training and no strategy at... 3:35
My typical weekly mileage is quite low, (usually between 20km and 40km) but I do 1 or 2 workouts like speed or tempo per week and bike around 14km daily.
People often say you need to be running 60+ miles (95+km) per week to go sub 3 - but for how long do you need to maintain that? With my current plan to increase mileage I will hit 60miles /week but only just in time to start race tapering.
Any input would be tremendously helpful!
