I’m a 17 year old female who has had 3 stress fractures. I am not anorexic, but I would say l’m skinny. I’m 5’2 and 108 lbs. I have my period regularly except I got in late. My first period was the beginning of my sophomore year. However, I will admit that in 8th grade I was anorexic for 1 year. I weighed 70 lbs and was 5’0. I realized what I was doing to my body was wrong from my parents/doctors and had to put stop to it. I take a multivitamin, magnesium supplement, eat around 2000 calories a day, and drink almond milk almost everyday. In 2016, I got my first stress fracture as a freshmen in my fibula during summer training. Track was fine and I had minor issues such as shin splints. 2018 is where issues really started. I got my second one in my foot - metatarsal the beginning of 2018 during indoor track. I decided to not do outdoor track so my body could fully heal. 2018 xc season I got a stress fracture in left inner shin - tubula right after our second meet. My coach really wanted me to get back since I was on varsity so I could be apart of the offseason. My doctor cleared me and I started running a little bit but I knew I was overdoing it. My coach said it was my choice if I wanted to push through pain so I did until after regionals. I had pain above my left ankle and could barely walk. It really sucked because we qualified for state but I did not think I would be able to physically run so the alternate took my spot. I’m almost fully healed but I’k worried about getting another injury. I have had blood work, biomechanics fix, physically therapy, and plenty of cross training. I’m planning on seeing if I can get a bone density test just to see if it’s low. Any comments or suggestion? I would really appreciate it and would like answer to why I keep getting stress fractures.
