Background: 30 year old male aiming for sub 17 5k next May. I've put together 24 week plan based on his book. However, he doesn't indicate what mileage variation there should be. He says to build volume, even up through Phase II, but I don't see any recommendations on volume amounts/cutbacks like his marathon plan has. Should I just build and maintain then cut back in Phase IV?
Second question - I was reading Hanson's book and like the idea of building up hill work to a peak and then cutting it back to maintain the gains but not overload. I was considering replacing some repitition work in phase II with 200m Hill sprints, and then keeping a few per week in phase III. Any thoughts on this approach?
