It very well could. My uncle's doctor told him that even though he drinks coffee only in the morning for some people the effects can still be felt at bed time.
I find that running 5 miles (about 9 kms) in the afternoon or early evening promotes a very good nights sleep.
Caffeine can definitely affect sleep if you are sensitive. Everyone is different. My dad has coffee after dinner and sleeps fine. My mother had to quit drinking coffee in the morning because it was giving her chest pains due to how much it elevated her BP.
If you are 40+, look at booze and sugar too. If I drink a lot before bed, I get up at 2 am feeling like someone poured 4 cups of coffee down my throat. Same issue with a big sweet desert.
Don’t give it up completely. It’s good for you. Cut back if you drink a lot though.
