the commentary is giving me brain damage but good race so far

That idiot is exhausting to listen to for the 15 minutes of the Carlsbad 5k, I don't know if I can do it for another hour.
kinda makes me miss NBC race coverage, ha
and now they break to the "human interest stories" and people stopping while they drink at water stations
I've never seen people completely stop and walk to drink water in a race, this is for real?
Let’s remember this live stream is a news channel for the Local Hawaiian residents...their target audience isn’t the running nerds of LetsRun (us).
point taken but here's my logical counter-argument to that
I know nothing about basketball or football (strange but true) and just imagine tuning into these guys commenting on a game to see if it's interesting
people think "oh running a marathon is accessible because anyone can put one foot in front of the other and not even train for it and still walk 26 miles" so we'll put anyone saying anything in charge of commentary
this is entirely wrong approach
imagine doing this for a cycling race which is less accessible and takes some skill - and then further up the sport complexity
there is no way they can't find a local running club with sub-elites to given them advice on commentary, I mean it's a huge city
also the commentator should not being 50 pounds overweight, it's entirely disrespectful
ps. did they just say several minutes ago that every kenyan has a trophy in their window? seriously? technically not racist but "nationalist"? I'm recording this so I'll have to go back and check out that comment again
another hilarious aspect is how amazed they are by the pace and how close to course record and they don't notice he is using vaporflys
wait did someone just OTQ in heavy headwinds? Don? #9 2:19:20
doh! the cutoff is 2:19:00 flat
so he missed it by several seconds, that has to suck
(steeplechaser) Donn Cabral Hartford 9 M15-19 2:19:2x ?
results (seems to be heavily delayed and still not showing the first 10 finishes)
As someone mentioned, they brought in the Carlsbad guy to commentate. I’m pretty sure his profession is a running commentator as I’ve heard him do many other events. He’s really not that bad of a commentator for the average person and the dude knows more running history than your “local Hawaiian sub-elite”. His commentating just may be a lil cheesy or dorky sometimes :)
Also he was explaining how amazing it is that one small part in Kenya dominates the world running scene. He attempted to explain running (and running fast) is a part of the culture. He said that the Kenyans see every third neighbor has running trophy, so they think to themselves “I can do this too”. Basically he said there’s such a high proportion of great runners there, it inspires more to run (basically people have role models), and thus a cycle of great runners is created.. it was not negative, racist, or nationalist at all. It was pretty positive. (I’m not necessarily trying to be argumentative, but I believe I should shut down needless negativity... instead of just complaining about how negative the Lets Run threads are).
So unknown Kenyan teenager barely loses to Edward Cheserek? Fastest miles in Hawaii for the men and women. Women in 4:22. And is the teenager the 8:16 steeple chaser Leonard Kipkemoi Bett? If its him I am surprised he is fast in the mile.
4th place has no intermediate splits and is listed as being in the 50-54 age group. Looks like Cabral is going to move up a place.
was 4th that Japanese runner? he seemed legit, saw him go through a checkpoint and the finish
probably timing/mat issue
honestly honolulu seems a bit amateurish which is strange in 2018
years ago they had a problem with doping russians trying to sneak through for the prize money and had to ban a few but since they were caught, apparently that much worked
