Herron finished the race in 2:54:55 and it is her third memorial marathon victory.
What the heck. Either that "marathon" distance is way off or Camille is a lot faster than I thought.

I think she said something about them hurting the tops of her feet, like she had the laces too tight. Hopefully she'll talk about it. I just heard her during the live feed after she finished. I don't know what she switched to and I may have misheard some of it. I wouldn't conclude anything or speculate too much until she talks about it directly.
Watching the video on Facebook, seems like she's saying she changed from one pair of VaporFly to another pair of VaporFly.
From the SI interview:
SI: Another strategic move was that you changed shoes at various points during the race. What was the reasoning behind that?
CH: I had three pairs of shoes. Nike sent me two pairs of Vaporflys and then a pair of Pegasus Turbos. I hit a point where I felt like a rock in my shoe. I tried to stop and adjust it but it felt like the material was bunching up or something. After those loops, weird things start to go wrong. I tried to adjust my shoe and realized that I could change them. I went a couple more hours in my second pair of Vaporflys but then felt like I needed a softer shoe. I wore the Pegasus Turbo through the night.
lucky for her Almaz Ayana isn't interested in this record, at least not yet
Thanks! Great article, a real clear chance to see where she’s coming from. Good luck at WCs!
"There’s a lot of thoughts on ultrarunning with extreme long runs or back-to-back long runs. I found that when I tried to push the limits on my training like that, it just broke me down. It made me feel more tired. When I went back to traditional marathon training, I found that I felt better. When I went into my 100-mile world record, my longest training run was only 20.5 miles.
SI: Wow.
CH: I was running about 120 miles per week on a pretty regular basis. I run twice a day, every day. That’s been key from a health standpoint. I ran twice a day in this buildup but I keep my long runs pretty short."
This ties into discussions of tinman training keeping things moderate and consistent. Stressful workouts are the greatest pitfall in running training. Consistency is the most underrated component of success (along with genetics).
Her background reminds me of my own early experiments. Byron Backer wrote recently that:
Last time I saw jesse, I gave him a ride home from the 1987 Grandfather Mountain Marathon. He did it barefoot on rocky dirt roads. Said he hadn’t eaten in 3 days. He still didn’t eat anything all the way back to South Carolina!
Camille is going to become the greatest of all time. Her range and strength is better than Ann. She's planning to get into more trailrunning and conquer Western States and Leadville next year.

Does that mean you're even more eccentric than Byron? Because, damn, that dude is out there. Y'all got some weird people down south. LOL.
You know it! David Horton said his favorite thing about Trans Am was the “punctuality.”
I think he meant it was going to END on time, and it sounded like he couldn’t wait!

Mmmh, just a little reality check:
100k
Ann Trason: 7:00:47
Camille Herron 7:08:35
Western States
Ann Trason: 14 wins from 1989 (age 28) to 2003 (age42)
Camille Herron: One try, got a concussion, DNF. (age 36)
Comrades Marathon
Ann Trason: 2 wins
Camille Herron: 1 win
Leadville
Ann Trason: Still holds the female LT100 record, 18:06:24, which she set in 1994.
Camille Herron: 1 DNF

I think Horton was talking about the car ;) Then again, with that guy, who knows!

This is funny. Obviously MeHereYouWhere has no clue who Horton or Riley is.
Trans Am was a footrace organized through the US from 1992 to 1995.
It couldn't be more far away from that stupid car.
Reality check? Notice I said "future goat". Camille is still only a few years into the sport and already faster than Ann at multiple distances. Plus Ann DNFed her first two Western States. Let's wait to see what happens next. To say the least, the strength of Camille last weekend was unprecedented.

Stop posting here Camille. Don't you realize that you ruin everything you do with all your babbling on social media. Let your performances speak for yourself.
Actually, I can’t remember such revelatory self-critiques. I watched Kouros for a thousand miles, Schwerk for two thousand, and didn’t learn a thing about either!

Jokes on you because I know of all 3.
Have run a few of Horton's races and on a first name basis with him.
Have met Jesse Riley
Learned about the Trans Am probably 12 years ago from an older ultra runner (although he didn't do it, he has run across America twice by himself) as he and Horton are good friends (he probably knows Jesse Riley, as well). Those old ultra farts all know each other ;)
Guilty, I only know the current stars from reading LR!
No idea what you're talking about. Just a fan here. Her performances do speak for themself. She's going to be the greatest.
