I meet your wife every other week. So I go down probably twice a month, if she is adequately clean and groomed.
Every one weeks. I drop mileage to 0 and max the intensity.
In XC, I always used this method (in terms of mileage, intensity stays relatively the same):
(Let’s also say I like to run b/w 55-60 in a harder week)
Hard/Pretty Hard Week (55)
Hard Week (60)
Easier Week (anywhere from 35-50, I liked 40/45)
Then cycle resets and you bump the mileage back up. What I like to do is increase the hard mileage after each cycle, that way you don’t peak as the season goes on but you also have time to slowly introduce more mileage. Then again, I don’t like the idea of building a base and never getting anywhere near that mileage again. I would prefer to build the base, cut back a little for workouts, and build up the mileage as shown.
