Good, smart race by Hocker, but that was definitely a weak field. A ten-minute 2mile took over half the field out of the race.
That was faster than last years time, someone hasn’t been paying attention...

Northeast Boys are going to totally smoke the course. They'll all be sub 14
Um, they are horrible.
Flanagan never made it to FL nats.
Solid week for Locker! 2nd at NXN and a win at Footlocker. Hope he can stay healthy and have a great track season.

Katelynne Hart would have won if she didn’t race nxn as well her schedule was sub 16 at state then next week, week 1: NXR, week 2: Foot locker Midwest, week 3: NXN, week 4: Foot locker nationals. That is a much more packed schedule than Mascareli had to deal with and I have a feeling if Katelynne had down time and didn’t have 5 all out efforts in a row her legs would be fresher.
Excuses. Didn't hurt Cole Hocker in the boys race.
Pre-race interview with Devin Hart: "I'm gonna win the national championship"
Finished 24th, I think like 10-12 places higher than last year in a much weaker field. Didn't even break 16. Wonder what happened to him, guess he burned out from trying to do too much last year in track and cross.
Congrats to Jack Stanley though for 7th.

Dude's gonna burn out before outdoor.

Can you read? Hocker's legit - so are Renfree, Morris and a few of the other contenders - but the field as a whole was diluted and clearly inferior to NXN's.
Also the coverage was pretty bad. Almost no footage of the leaders in the second half, and the commentators acted stunned that 5 minute pace didn't string everything out by 2k.

Hocker also ran 13 seconds slower at Footlocker than NXN and won in a pretty weak field. Didn't look like he had to fight very hard for the win.

Yup, fatigue is cumulative. He over did it in the spring and is paying the price now. Take a long break kid.
wow footlocker is dead. not even half the field broke 16....like what? i guess its too bad since footlocker used to be really cool but

Maybe if Hart waited till the 2nd half of the race and stalked, rather than be stalked.

Camera went out on lead gator.........it happens.
You young punks. In my day we had to wait for T&F News to come out to get results from NCAA x-c.
Now get off my lawn.

Remember when Lukas Verzbikas just jogged a 14:45 like it was nothing?
Remember when he was 6 years older than his competitors? Kinda telling that he peaked in HS....
Congrats to the winners today.
Girls times were way more impressive. The boys race looked like a typical high school race in which everyone minus the top 10 or so has the look of death on their face going up hills. The longevity of the season took its toll on most of them as running a 16 minute 5k didn't win these guys state nor qualify them at FL regionals.

So we have the same question as last year. Who is #2 this year? Chmiel or the FL winner?
There are quite a few overlaps with some girls doing the NXN FL double so you could draw some comparisons with speed ratings or time differences between performances. Something interesting to note is that Mary Hennelly who finished 2nd to Tuohy at their county meet raced at Footlocker today.
This race would have definitely been a whole lot more competitive with the top NY girls talent, but to be honest I feel like this race was much more exciting to watch compared to NXN where it was just Tuohy doing an expected win.
Sydney will be better than Tuohy come this time in 2019. The cool-headed multi-sport athlete types will inevitably dominate the neurotic high-mileage mega-racers.
I just wish Lane hadn't been injured this year. She was on trajectory for a 16:10, if not faster.

Agreed. Furthermore, I'd argue that Hart bounced back from a subpar, probably disappointing effort and delivered her best race of the season - nothing about her collective performances this year suggested she'd be that close to beating Masciarelli, or beating Covert (who dusted her at Regionals and NXN) by nearly 30 seconds.
Note: Kinda crazy, but if Masciarelli hadn't given up soccer, the Midwest girls would've perfect-scored this meet.

She ran nothing in 2018 track and XC that would give indication of that trajectory.
