I normally wear my running shoes for about 400 miles and then I replace them. Recently however I got the model of the shoe I have been wearing for the last year at a deep discount. So I decided to see what the difference is at about 200 miles. Wow! The ride is noticeably better - way more shock absorption and control. I was able to run faster with less effort. Plus, and here is a benefit most people will like, I was far less sore the next morning.
