Hello.
Could anyone recommend resources/books/articles on young pre-teenage years (8-12yo) kids training?
This does not have to be running specific as I believe that at this age too much of specific training might not be the best way to go in developing all around athlete and nurturing the interest in sport. At age of 8-12 I would rather have kid do little bit of everything while developing aerobically as well.
I do agree that for some sports it is vital to have specificity from early days (swimming, tennis, etc), however, I feel that for running that is not always best case. Feel free to argue on this point though.
Some of you will say to just let kid go to soccer or basketball practices and that will provide all required training. While I agree with the idea, the kid himself likes running (probably from watching relatives run) and I would like to be little bit more BUT not too much specific. Hence, looking for ideas on how to incorporate some running specific but at the same time kid friendly/fun work.
Would also very much interested in any studies on endurance training impact for kids. I know we now have some successful examples, namely Ingebrigtsens, some kids where jury is still out, ex. Pings, so would like get more scientific data on this as well. I fully well agree that for young runners there should be a healthy focus on developing speed side as well regardless of where most potential lies.
At the end, I want kids to have fun and get better at the sport they enjoy doing as well.
