I just want to say that this was an addictive thread. I looked at my phone several times today to see whether the OP showed back up.
While it was a bit anticlimactic in the end, I still think OP’s got a future in writing nail biters.

I concur. Anticipation of this thread got me through getting a crown put on a broken molar due to a freakish Christmas candy incident.
Fwiw, the most insightful comment on the thread: “People who can run 6mi in 30min don’t brag about it.” Good point; those people are immersed enough in the sport to know that - as good as they are - there are much bigger fish out there.
I have a request of the OP: a brief follow up interview with the subject to find out if his claims were conscious hyperbole or unconscious ignorance.
And sorry, one last thing: your buddy has nothing to be ashamed of. Most people woukd have punked out and not even tried. Kudos to him for facing the music.
He died
I'm back!
The sport that the coworker plays is ultimate disc, which he plays pretty much year round. SO not soccer, but still plenty of running around.
In terms of the logistics, he got on the treadmill and "warmed up" by running at 10mph for 5 minutes. To be honest, I was surprised that he made it through that. Looked to me like he was pressing, but he said he was doing fine. He stretched a little bit, then got on the treadmill. The time started immediately, even while it was speeding up, but it was a pretty good treadmill , think it only took about 10-15 sec to reach full speed. For the record, my prediction was less than 2 minutes.

3 minutes on the nose. At that point he grabbed the bars and stepped off.

OK, so we have two people claiming to be the OP???
...the plot thickens...
Iogiceagle this post is fake. The first letter is a capital i not lower case L.
Just copy the names and paste in a text then backspace over the name. Autocorrect will show which one used the i versus L.

The poster above is the original poster. Someone else posted as Iogiceagle with a capital i earlier and was a fake.
No such thing as an NCAA enforcer. Sorry. No one is fighting with a full cage and suspensions.
Do I win?
I guessed ultimate and 3:07 for the time...

That's not bad for a non-runner. Almost 1k @ 5:00 pace. I'm impressed.
But, still, he only made good on 10 per cent of his claim -- 3 minutes out of the 30 promised.
So did you let him have it after? Make him send an office-wide email admitting to his falsehood? Have him written up with Linda from HR? More details!
Yeah I'm curious how he reacted. Was he pissed? Make excuses? Hang his head in shame?
Did you hang your head in shame for being the d bag who made your coworker embarrass himself?
I know I hung my head in shame after I realized I checked this thread multiple times today...
Luckily I didn't try to explain my interest to anyone today, my GF would certainly dump my ass halfway through my explanation. I'm feeling like hanging my head after thinking about how my explanation of this thread would sound if spoken out loud.
"Then somebody tried to fake the results by posting with a capital I, but then owner of the website checked the url and it was fake." God I'm embarrassed even typing it. Congrats lets run on making me interested is something totally lame and pointless. Not talking about my 15 years of cross country fandom either...

I'm right there with you.
It reminds me of a coworker many years ago, when I was a pretty fair runner. He said was going hang with me running a 5k. When I looked back after 1/2 mile he was gone. Many people think running fast is just mental and don't appreciate the athleticism and training it takes. Elite runners make it seem easy because they seemingly run effortlessly.

Obviously had to include it was a high stakes table, not just one of those normal tables. Wouldn't be LRC without it.

I don't get you.
OP told an interesting story and promised he'd be back with a conclusion, and you kept checking for it. You're a fan of running and this is a running story. And being a fan, you probably suspected the co-worker was full of it and that the conclusion would be the inevitable failure to complete the 30 minutes. So why the shame?
It's not like OP held a gun to the guy's head -- it was their co-workers who suggested they see it out on the treadmill (re-read OP's post). OP him/herself even gave allowed him the chance before that to gently walk back his claim.
Actually, I think I have it. You're probably the sort of person who makes wild exaggerations like this guy did and feel shame because you caught yourself in the mirror.
So what did he say op?
I mean I never understand things like this. Did he get the speed wrong originally (KPH V MPH) or was he just lying?
Why make a claim and try to back it up when you are so far away from it?
