No, not even close. Kipchoge is in the GOAT conversation, Kam doesn't have the speed or the endurance of Kipchoge. You won't ever see him run 7:28/12:46/2:01
He also said that Rupp could break the World Record in the marathon. Think the man is just a little too nice in a way that makes him overly supportive.
Not sure it this is cultural but I've seen Africans make statements which seem self-deprecating but really serve to deflect pressure from themselves. It's subtle gamesmanship.

I doubt it 2:01.39 is insane, I an thinking maybe get under 2:04.00 if everything is PERFECT, His Training, Weather, Pacers, Preparation should include a SUB 59:00 Half Marathon, he has not shown the shape to do this for a few years, I hope the window has not closed on running those times, He regularly beats Marathoners who have gone under 2:05:00 and running twice under 26:50 (26:44 and 48) with a 7:30 for 3000 and a 3:50 Mile, 3:34 for 1500 shows speed is not a problem, all the credentials are there Olympic , Medals at 10000 and the Marathon, still he has not shown that form for a while, I hope he does it.

He closed a half marathon in 13:01 in Valencia. Give the guy some credit!

Kam has what it takes to run some world records when it comes to talent enough.......but I`m not sure he will ever reach his optimal capacity with Sang.
Actually Kam asked me to coach a new world record at road 15 k in autumn 2016 but unfortunately he got sick in pneumonia.
Well....Sang`s and my system are quite similar , but I have an extra "turbo" in mine .....the perfect individual recovery.

Obviously Kipchoge is being supportive of his younger training mate who happens to look up to him as a mentor/role model. Kipchoge is always supportive and speaks well of others even his competitors. When we analyze the two athletes, Kamworor, who is only 26 has achieved way more than Kipchoge had achieved at the same age.
Apart from winning junior world cross country and 5000m at the 2003 world championship, Kipchoge had no other major credentials to boast of by age 26. Were he to retire at 26, he would have been forgotten fast. On the other hand, Kamworor has won 3 world half marathon titles and two world cross country titles. He has been able to juggle up three surfaces: grass, track and the roads, and win on the first two while doing pretty well on the roads including winning NYC marathon. Were he to retire now, he would rank very high since the only other athlete to have won more than two world half marathons is Zersaney Tadese of Eritrea with almost 6. In cross country, he would rank a joint fourth with Mouhrit and William Sigei. No one currently or before has been able to do what Kamworor is and has been doing concurrently( marathon, 10K , half marathon, cross country). I believe after Tokyo he will retire from track and cross country and focus on the maraton. Can you bet such a guy running 2:02 or faster? That is why Kipchoge's sentiments are not misplaced.

Please stop.
Kam closed a half marathon in 13:01... he probably won't be able to surpass kipchoge, but it it is not outlasndish to say that he will be one of the best marathon runners on Earth before too long
f u c k that was incoherent. I mean to say that he will probably be around 2:03-2:04 soon
Kam can "barely" break 13 in the 5 and 26:50 in the 10. If he was racing in the Bekele/Kipchoge/El G/Tadesse/Sihine/Wanjiru/Geb era like Kipchoge, he'd have no track medals because he can't kick or force the pace with those guys. He'd have no World XC titles because Bekele would dominate him and he'd have real problems with Tadesse and Wanjiru over the half distance.
He is prospering in the now minority events against much weaker competition than the 2000's. He has been running marathons since 2012 including numerous attempts on fast courses but he hasn't done anything special yet.
As for your argument on what he doing concurrently, Rupp beat him in the 2016 olympic 10000m final and won Olympic bronze in the marathon a week later and nobody is confusing Rupp with a GOAT runner like Kipchoge.
Geoffrey Kamworor is the single most overhyped runner on the planet right now. Kejelcha will walk all over him in a few years at every distance and discipline.
Cheptegei is the dark horse in the race to succeed Kipchoge. In 5 years, he will hold the record in the 15km, Half Marathon and Marathon.
I completely disagree with you that Kamworor would be dominated by the likes of Bekele and Wanjiru/ Tadese. First of all Wanjiru though was great in the half marathon, did not even win a medal in the world half marathon championship. Tadese won the race while Wanjiru was way back running 63 mins! There is a difference between running fast and winning championships. Kamworor is actually both(fast and championship runner). In cross country, it was normal in 2014 -2016 for him to win national championships by a margin of a minute or more, something unprecedented in the national championship! But his best event has really been the half marathon, winning all the three decisively and winning by a big margin the 2016 race where even the likes of Mo Farah could not master to stay within 40 seconds of Mo Farah.
I vaguely recollect Kamwo being the talk of the town since crushing the world XC, but year upon year the predictions that he would take over the track or the roads fell flat. What important event has he actually won? I know he went fast this year but not against particularly tough competition.
More likely either 800+ GOAT Augustine Choge will be the new heir, or the pendulum will swing back Ethiopia's way when their new 12:4x guy's move up.

We cannot say as yet until he runs a few half marathon races. He could end up like Leonard Patrick Komon and or Tadese who could not handle the marathon.
Talking of Cheptegei, I am reminded how tough Kamworor third world title attempt is going to be epic. Apart from Cheptegei, his compatriot Jacob Kiplimo(who has been very impressive in Europe, once almost beating Cheptegei himself) and Kamworor's compatriot Rhonex Kipruto (26:46 @ 10K road ) will all be in the senior race. Oh what a race that will be! If Kamworor survives that race, he should be crowned the GOAT! It will also be the first time the world race will be run on snow since Kamworor won in China in 2015.

Cheptegei can’t even beat Kam at cross country. Forget these pretenders. If he doesn’t get lured to certain mediocrity by the potential smothering NCAA, Rhonex is the one.
https://twitter.com/iaaforg/status/1069576976128753664?s=21Rhonex is the next great one I'm sure of this. But Cheptegei is really really good he did win the silver medal in 2017 Worlds. Remember just after the bell lap Mo Farah and the three Kenyans including Kam had gapped Cheptegei and the only one to cross the line before him was Mo Farah.
+1 - The competition Kipchoge faced on the track was way tougher than today's crop, which is why Farah cannot resist coming back knowing he'll be picking up another WC and Olympic gold in the 10k even though he'll be 37 in Tokyo. The man outkicked Bekele and El Guerrouj in a championship final, which on its own is a greater accomplishment than anything Kamworor has done on the track.

Really, you think Choge is gonna be the next #1 marathon / the one to surpass Kipchoge? That’s one wild prediction man.
