How are the logistics for this race? Need to take a trip to San Diego at some point this spring and since I've always heard about this race was trying to overlap and run it. Is it easy to drive up/park assuming staying in downtown SD? Any public transportation options?

Agreed, this is excellent news. Maybe we'll get to see race coverage again and top times at all levels, like a few years ago. If it works, this could be a model for local runners taking back races from a corporate owner that is ruining them.
Because your an athlete that has run at the highest level does not mean you have any idea of how manage a race. It's far different than showing up on the starting line, doing a little race PR and attending a post race awards ceremony.
Carlsbad has been tired for years, let's see if Meb has the capability to reinvigorate the race.
Race coverage, TV etc. takes money to have a production team and buy the time on TV, different skill set for 99.9 of race organizers.

Carlsbad is in "North County" meaning some distance (at last 30 mi) from downtown SD. But that stretch is beautiful country, one of the least developed areas of SoCal between LA and SD. And the coast is a stretch of smaller towns so parking is usually not an issue - although the race has a huge field - around ~10,000. Maybe you'd have to jog a mile to get to the start?
imagine someday (in decades?) there is going to be a million dollar (total) prize money 5K
this could be the one
of course that means entry fees will become insane but maybe sponsors will step up instead
I guess maybe there needs to be a $100,000 non-marathon first, all I know is "Worlds Best 10K" ? Are there others?
