I don't think he could, but I do think 47-yr-old Pete Sampras could quite easily.

Bobby Riggs was 55 when he dominated the Women's top player Margaret Court (AU) 6-2 6-1 in what was described as a massacre in the media.
I would love t see it. She claims she wants equal pay but she doesn’t play men.

Have you seen him play recently? He still plays at a very high level. When this stupid controversy surfaced two years ago he said that there are probably 200 pros who could beat her. He knows more about the game than I do, but I think he was really selling the men's game short. There have got to be 3,000-10,000 males that could beat Serena.
My brother was State Champion and a highly ranked player from age 10-18 and then went to Pepperdine to play in D1. He is now the Director of Operations at Advantage Tennis Academy. He never made a huge impact though in D1. He said that there are just so many foreigners and so many Americans that are great and so many top schools to get that far in the big tournaments. He is 6'4".
When this was a big deal in the media the first time, I asked him what he thought and he said even though he is over 30 and not training to compete, he would destroy her.
I can't see McEnroe saying this fro any other reason than it is just the objective truth.
Well, I was way off about his D1 ability. I asked him about that and I forgot that Pepperdine won the NCAA D1 Championships in 2006 while he was on the team. He was not arrogant enough to remind me how much of a role he had played.
I live across the country from him and that is why I forgot.
49 low for 400m wins Olympic women’s gold. How many high school boys can run 49 low for 400?
That’s right a a shitte ton

But the comparative question is: How many 59yo'ers can run 49 low for 400m?
Top high school boys would beat her as stated by Chris Evert . Chris said she could not beat her brother who was ranked over 800 in the world back in the day.....
RE: 59-yr-old John McEnroe says he can still beat Serena Williams
What do you mean "still"? MacMouth has never beaten Serena, ever.

But he might be able to. I like women’s tennis, and I like Serena. She would not beat the top men. McEnroe was without a doubt a better tennis player than she could ever hope to be. I’d love to see them play.
Until MacEnroe identifies as a woman, this ain't gonna happen.

She said she could beat on clay, though.
The whole thing is kind of pathetic. Although it's been over 25 years, McEnroe hasn't gotten over the fact that he is no longer a world class tennis player. There is no way Serena is going to participate in some circus event so that McEnroe can have another day in the limelight.

Of course she would not beat the top men or McEnroe when he was younger. She would lose to most D1 men and some top high schoolers as well.
But we are talking about a 60 year-old man. The men's WC for the 400m is 53.88 and 11.7 for the 100m. There are high school girls that could beat those times, let alone D1 women. How fast do you think McEnroe could cover the court. His quickness, agility and power are not even close to a high school athlete. And Serena Williams is not Billie Jean King.
The men's WC for age 60 is 53.88 and 11.7 for the 100m.

This was never his idea. He’s always refused. He didn’t say he wanted to. He even complained about why they always being this up and he’s the one they mention. He said they should ask someone else. He talked about slowing down and was light hearted and joking when he said he could beat her “if he trained right”.
So, congratulations for coming across as an idiot. Well done. Maybe actually watch before just spouting off your idiot opinion
The whole premise is wrong. Sport is entertainment. I bet womens tennis is just as popular as men's tennis. It has nothing to do with ability

Exactly. Anna Kournikova never won that many tournaments. Winning isn't everything.
This is like the recent BS about Alabama being able to beat NFL teams. Anyone who says it doesn't understand tennis at all, and actually it is a lame argument because it is so apples to oranges. There are TONS of videos on youtube of things like WTA 100 vs male 5.0 that show the difference in court coverage, racket head speed, and mostly the serve. Mac would destroy her and he actually is pretty humble about the level of his tennis right now at age almost 60--recently said he'd be lucky to be in the top 1000 on the men's tour.
