I have only run one marathon, 1:11 1:29 splits. Got crazy cramps after 30k and walked the last 2k. What is your biggest positive split?

Not for sure, one that comes to mind is this time I did a half marathon where I got diarrhea about half way through. Went through 6 miles in about 36 minutes and finished the race in a bit under 90 minutes. So I'm guessing from memory my splits were something like: 37:30/ 52.5
Nice claim!
1:20, 1:35. Final 2 miles @ 9:00 min/mile. I've seen worse like 1:15, 1:45.
1st 440 yards, 63 seconds, last 1320 yards, 4:40 for a 5:43 mile.

Yeah, going out at world record pace is a good idea. At what point in the second laps did you realize you overcooked it in the first lap?

I'm assuming you're a sub-1:47 guy when the splits are a bit closer.
Ouch that must have hurt! I've only run a couple 800's but I have always gone out a bit too hard, not as hard as you though...

I believe I've seen Mark Everett and Duane Solomon have second laps on occasion as stated above. We know both men raced their share of 49.xx first laps.
Good idea that was wrote:

Let me guess: at 500m?
My first 800m was 62s, 73s: 2m15. Painful!
To my defence: I was only 9 months into running (no sports before that), had no mid-distance training at all, and I was already 37 years old. Still: embarrassing.
I'm crap at 800m and my PB race was 61 first lap for a 2:08 finish. I'm normally 10% longer in the last lap. I am more of a long runner so find these races so short for me.

I had a similar mile in sophomore gym class many years ago.
Went through half in 2:15...3rd lap 3:45...finished in 5:12
I have not one, but two teammates who have done this on separate occasions:
800m
Lap 1: 60
Lap 2: 119-120 for final times of 2:59, 3:00
The 800 always seems to get some dramatic ones...
Had one teammate freshman year of high school who came through 400 in 59, looking amazingly smooth. Then probably 20 meters later you could tell it wouldn't end well, and he ran 88 for the second lap to finish in 2:27.
Another teammate ran a 4x8 relay leg at state our senior year, splitting 24/31/35/34 for a 2:04 ... which actually matched his open PR! That last 200 actually could have been way worse, had he not fought like crazy to stick with a couple guys who had passed him.
As far as I know, that was the last 800 either of them ever raced, since the first one only ran cross country after freshman year, and the second one didn't run in college.
My worst might have been an end-of-season 1500, where I was aiming for sub 4 (my season best/PR was 4:03 at the time). Came through 800 in 2:07, then struggled home with a last 700 of 2:10 for a 4:17.
At 14 in my second season of running I ran 1000m (which was customary instead of 800m) in ca. 65 - 77 - 40. I should have known better as I had ran the distance about a dozen times in competition and was actually able to run fairly evenly paced but at this occasion adrenaline rush got the better of me.
I also seem to recall an occasion where a sprinter from my club was forced to participate in a 4x800 and split around 60-80.
Marathon...first half 1:20, second 1:48...tried to run this with one slice of bread and three small gels...total energy depletion...rookie mistake...
I think I win
Rockford marathon 2017
First half - 1:28:30
2nd half - 3:00:08
Essentially gave up at mile 18. I did all my long runs on trails and the roads just killed me. Walked it in while wearing a trash bag from an aid station (I got cold)
You guys are all light weights.
103 mile race.
12:30 the first half.
18:50 the second half. (Strained calf muscle. Walked the last 40 miles)
Beat that.
