On masterstrack.blog there is a woe-is-me story about a masters athlete who was renting a place which burnt down in the recent CA fires. She escaped unharmed with a few personal possessions but basically lost just about everything she owned. Now there's a fund-raiser for her to try to raise money to help her get back on her feet. This lady is a world champion who recently competed in Spain, so she had the funds to pay for an overseas trip - yet we can find this phrase tucked into the article - "She did not have renter's insurance."
WTF? Renters insurance is pretty cheap - I get mine for about $40 a month, and now they are pleading with people to pony up money to help her out? I'm certain she's a nice person and all, but how can you be so stupid as to not have renters insurance?
I've donated some money to a friend of a friend whose husband is still missing in the fires. That's a tragedy. Losing almost all your worldly goods because you failed to buy insurance is just plain dumb.
