Fisher was born in Canada.
I keep seeing this insinuation. Is the situation one where his parents were on vacation, or is it that one parent is a Canadian citizen, or what? I am pretty sure that he is a US citizen and always has been.

Is Canada not in North America?
Canadians are not Americans. Americans are Americans. Canadians are Canadians.
I think Fisher has been the top American runner in two NCAA track and in two XC championships thus far. Fisher and Derrick are tied for all American finishes in cross country at 4.
Not sure about including indoor and outdoor track for all American status. Every time Fisher has competed in an NCAA championships (XC, outdoors, and indoors) he finished with all American status. Very impressive consistency in NCAA competition.
Call him Mr. consistent.

Irrelevant. He competes for the US and is an 8-time all American, while Derrick is a 14-time all American. However, Fisher also has an NCAA title and Derrick does not. This isn’t really a great comparison though, since Fisher still has a good amount of eligibility left (I think he’s only actually used one season of indoor eligibility in 3 years). Make this thread in a year from now.

You seriously think people are going on vacation while 9 months pregnant and then accidentally having a baby in another country?

Citizenship doesn't matter on LRC....what we celebrate on LRC is only PURE AMERICAN-BORN heroes....and Fisher ain't one.

“pure American” That would mean Billy Mills is the best American runner of all time.
“pure American” how silly is that? Except for indigenous peoples, the rest of us are from other places.

But Fisher IS American-born, isn't he? I thought he was born a dual citizen. The question has never been "was he born on American soil?", but "was he born an American?" And he was

Grant Fisher is a natural born US citizen. Sorry that offends you but that's just the facts. He will also end up with more top-American finishes and already has more NCAA titles than Chris Derrick.
His wikipedia say Canadian-born American distance runner. His parents were part of the Canuck Caravan no one really talks about anymore in the immigration world when thousands of Canadians rushed the border, illegally.

He is as american as Lagat and Chelimo. So if you factor them out for some reason then you should be the same way with him.

You misunderstood my post. I was making fun of the notion of what is “pure American”. Grant Fisher is an American citizen who has an American mother and a Canadian father. He moved to the USA when he was 3. He represents the USA well having already competed at world youth and junior championships wearing the USA singlet and he ran at the USA Olympic trials. For the few fools who constantly question his nationality, there are far more running fans out there that embrace Grant Fisher as American as any American that has grown up in our country and school school system, that has an American passport and can vote in the USA. Fisher is an amazing roll model for aspiring young runners/student athletes/people in general. Wish the USA had more citizens like him.
