There will be a 3K prelim this year. 10:30 am and 11:00 am I believe.

Which is more impressive? Greg Morgan of Haverford (SR) being paced through 2600m on a banked track, but having to navigate lapped runners the last few laps and running 8:14, or Lucas Mueller of Carleton (SO) running a relatively solo effort with someone sitting on him on a flat track for a 8:22? Both ran substantial negative splits.
I lean towards Mueller of Carleton, with obvious bias, but I want to hear other's thoughts.

Fun tidbit, Mueller finished one spot ahead of Morgan at XC nationals this past fall.
Tossup. I didn't see the Minnesota race, but Lucas is only a sophomore and Morgan is a senior. I did watch the 8:14 which was really impressive. Morgan was paced by Charlie Marquardt for the first 2600 at 33s and still found an extra gear for the final two lap kick. What's the flat track conversion worth ?

Definitely Mueller of Carleton.

The conversions are overly generous in my opinion, but as long as they are consistent I suppose I can't say anything. The conversion drops him down to an 8:16
Did anyone else notice Dylan Gearinger ran a 7:59 3k at BU today, but was unattached? If he had been racing under Haverford it would've been only a few tenths of a second of the D3 record but alas he was not. Anyone know what's up
Is he targeting USATF instead this year? I think that time probably gets him pretty close to qualifying.

Angry at his coach for not running him at nationals for XC- pretty sure he quit the team.
That is not what happened.
Last I heard he had a stress fracture in his foot that kept him out of XC nationals... guess that wasn’t true. No way you run 7:59 on two months of not running.
He is not listed on the team roster for track

Does he have XC eligibility left after this year? If he does, my guess is he's "redshirting" this year so he can have a full year (XC/IN/OUT) of eligibility left for 2019-20. In order to get around D3 rules around redshirting, he may be "quitting" the team for just this track season so he's not on the roster and not expending a year of eligibility. Will McDermott did exactly this in the spring of 2017 so he could have a full 5th year in 2018-19. He ran like 14:15 or so unattached at an outdoor meet sometime that year.
All that said, I recommend that Gearinger take his "redshirt" off. He's in dominant shape right now and he should take advantage of that, for there is no guarantee he'll be in the same condition next year.

why did you bold will mcdermott, he's just a man
Haverford men are running well too, with Gearinger in the mix they could potentially podium using only distance runners. With Greg Morgan and Jamie Moreland they could put together a great dmr. Big points for Gearinger in 3k/5k. Another bunch of points in either 3k or mile for Greg. Plus they have a guy who made nationals last year and got third in steeple that could provide help in the 5k. But if Dylan doesn't run, they probably aren't relevant as a team. Wonder if Dhruvil and others are relieved after seeing that 7:59.

This isn't exactly what happened, but he did indeed quit the team. He's got a VERY minor sponsor now (paying him less than $6000 I think), but he's running for Philadelphia Runner Track Club.
Basically, will no longer be running D3.
