The sport of cross country is misunderstood anyway, but Indiana State spent a long time cultivating a fan base and the NCAA meets that have been there have been well run and the crowds have gotten larger and larger each year. It is great for the sport. Then the dysfunctional NCAA Track & Field Committee decides to put the NCAA meet in Madison, WI. That will bring out droves of spectators from all over the country. It doesn't mean that Wisconsin won't try to do a good job, but with the temperatures they way they are, it hurts the sport. Its not about "being tough" or anything like that. We are trying to get people to come to the meet. Does the NFL put the SuperBowl in an outdoor stadium in the north in January? No. We need to have leaders of our sport that think big picture and how to attract fans so they can watch the great athletes who compete. The last two times the NCAA meet was in Wisconsin it was horrible weather which hurt folks wanting to come out. I have had many people who normally would go to the NCAA meet that they won't attend this year because of where it is. The sport of cross country is a fantastic event and we must work to create that greatness.
