I've used many training programs over the seasons, but now I'm experimenting with my body and looking for a new training system that seems fun and plausible. I've done many different training cycles in the past but none are close to what I am about to describe. If there is a training program that covers this then please let me know.
5000m is the primary event this training system focuses on even though very little to no work is done at that pace. The system involves doing easy Marathon paced tempos and speed work faster than mile pace. There are 2 workouts per week: a Marathon pace tempo on Monday and a mile workout on Wednesday. A great percentage of the mileage is easy. Essentially, you're training like a marathoner and a miler which, in theory, would give you the fitness of a 5K runner. It would look something like this:
Week 1
Mon: 60:00 @ 80% MP
Tue: Easy
Wed: 20x100 @ Mile w/100 Jog
Thur: Easy
Fri: Easy + Flying 30s
Sat: Long Run
Sun: Rest/Easy
Week 2
Mon: 75:00 @ 80% MP
Tue: Easy
Wed: 10x200 @ Mile w/ 200 Jog
Thur: Easy
Fri: Easy + Flying 30s
Sat: Long Run
Sun: Rest/Easy
Week 3
Mon: 90:00 @ 80% MP
Tue: Easy
Wed: 6x300 @ Mile w/ 300 Jog
Thur: Easy
Fri: Easy + Flying 30s
Sat: Long Run
Sun: Rest/Easy
Is there anything good here or am I just crazy? Let me know what you think!
