I want to get into higher mileage this winter. I did 60 for 4-6 weeks in the summer and 1-2 in the season for xc as a junior off of 7 days and sometimes one double, but the more and more I look into it I see huge benefits from high mileage and I’m definitely a higher mileage runner as I can jump into 5x mp weeks without any sort of injuries or exhausting myself. Do college coaches look at 75-80 miles in HS as a bad thing and won’t recruit them as much or do they like that this runner can handle that and perform off of a solid work load. My high school hasn’t really ever had runners do a lot of miles, and I’ve been one of the first to venture past 50. It also makes it easier that our intensity is pretty light. 2 hard workouts a week or one and a race along with a long run, but the workouts for xc have been something like 5-6x1k at 3:00 low and 2 minutes rest. I run sub 16 for 5k, so it’s not like I’m insanely fast, but I do alright at most meets.
