I've got into the band Batushka recently....think black metal version of Ghost in terms of presence. Sounds a bit like Mgla

Some contemporary bands playing classic NWOBHM and speed metal:
Speedtrap—“Straight Shooter” is face melting jet fuel. “Powerdose” is also loud and obnoxious.
Black Viper—“Hellions of Fire” is the love child of Maiden and Priest.
Stallion—“From the Dead”—not bad at all.
Steel Assassin—“In Hellfire Forged” is a great blast of all things 80s.
Skull Fist—“Heavier Than Metal” about sums it up.
I'll throw in Stabscotch. It isn't really metal but if you're a fan of "heavy music" you'll probably really like them. Think like the ominous and decidedly lonely feel of Slint mixed with maybe early Unwound or Big Black.
Their album Uncanny Valley was released in 2017 and recently reviewed by THE Pier Scaruffi who gave it an impressive 8/10 (I think he's given four albums an 8+ in the entire 2010s, the one 8.5 being Joanna Newsome's Have one on Me, I'd personally give it a 9.5/10)
I checked out Speedtrap on Apple Music. Excellent.

Not always a fan of the classic heavy metal but not bad...I liked a few of the songs listed there. Along the same lines as those bands, I did like Visigoth - Conqueror's Oath (singer is same as Gallowbraid I posted a few pages back)
https://youtu.be/Xtc2Yn6WJQwThe new High on Fire album is awesome.
Yes it is. Too bad Matt Pike’s health problems nixed their tour.
New Judas Priest album FIREPOWER is pretty hot--sounds like old Priest.
Ordos--everything on House of the Dead is heavy.
Vokonis--The Sunken Djinn
I like BABYMETAL.
Some other recent favorites--always looking for more.
Green Druid--At the Maw of Ruin (Kind of stoner-prog)
Fireball Ministry--Their Rock is Not Our Rock (Scott Reeder's post-Kyuss band)
Harakiri for the Sky--Maere (My favorite record of theirs so far.)
Type O Negative--October Rust (goth metal gods)
Kamni--Mandala (Russian stoner metal)
The 69 Eyes--Blessed Be (goth metal gods, part 2)
I'm not huge on Gimme Chocolate (although my kids like it)......but there are some songs by babymetal i do enjoy
Sis Anger musically borders on death metal
This year, my favourite album has been Borknagar - True North (came out 2019 but discovered it this year)
I liked that--will get the album. My first thought: if REO Speedwagon played black/folk metal, it might sounds similar to this.
Metal is tough
Metal will sheen
Metal won't rust when oiled and cleaned
Metal is tough
Metal will sheen
Metal will rule in my master scheme
BABYMETAL is like an accident on the road that gets your attention. Combining J-Pop with heavy metal and the hip hop dancing girls is totally weird. But what happens when the girls are all grown up and can't do it anymore? (they already lost one of the original three to an injury or something like that).
Two of my favorite metal bands and best songs:
SLIPKNOT - Psychosocial:
SLAYER- Season of the Abyss (this concert featured the late Jeff Hanneman):
These are two of my best training songs. They get my through some brutal speed workouts as well as as some HIIT workouts on the bike. ?
It's never wrong to play Slayer.

^^^^^AGREED!
The new Harakiri for the Sky is now fully released. I think it's their best yet.
Recently listened to the whole Beastwars catalog. Not sure how I'd classify it--definite desert/stoner sound, but that's not all.
Godsleep's "Coming of Age" is pretty good, especially "Ded Space."
