For all metal genres: NWBHM, thrash, black, death, crust, folk. Go with what you like.
What are you listening to?
Just got Immortal’s new album Northern Chaos Gods. Loud, riff-filled , old-school Immortal sound.

Copper has always been my fav. I like the way it turns green.
Tool - Lateralus, stunning.
Also really want to see the remaster of and justice for all should be next up.
Favorite doom metal band?
Far and away it’s Domkraft.

Try British Steel.
Right now what I am mainly listening to:
Black Sabbath
Electric Wizard
Pentagram
Megadeath
Sleep
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Pantera
High on Fire’s new one, Electric Messiah.
Priest, Maiden
Cobalt
I’ll add some proggier stuff I’ve been listening too lately.
The Good Doctor by Haken
Rewind by Leprous
The Price by Leprous
And this is more of a jazz/prog rock with some hints of metal but the band Thank You Scientist is pretty cool.
And obviously classics like Metallica, maiden, etc are always a good choice.
Primal Fear, edguy, hammerfall, Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, Pagan's mind, gamma ray, Grave Digger, brainstorm, avantasia, iron savior, kamelot, Nightwish, Sabaton, Seventh Wonder, threshold, Vanden plas
First post on the boards. Might as well be here.
All 80/90s: Metallica, Alice in Chains, Slayer, Testament, Ramones, Van Halen, Sabbath, Maiden, Dokken, Suicidal Tendencies, Pantera, Dio, Ratt, Megadeth, Sepultura, Savatage, etc.
Lately it’s been: Celtic Frost, Kreator, Burzum, and Satyricon. None of these, for the most part, when the wife is around. She does at least tolerate Sabbath, Priest, etc.

Forgot to mention Alice In Chains. Big fan of them.
Some heavier stuff that I like would be Dethklok, Trivium, and Amon Amarth.
Some cool lighter stuff would be Ghost, Red Sun Rising, and some Highly Suspect.
Not much of a metal fan but I like some "hipster"/experimental metal
Boris is god-tier Drone/Doom - Feedbacker, Flood, Pink, Amplifier Worship, Dronevil are all great
Deafheaven is great as well - SUNBATHER is a classic, but there new album is pretty good as well
Murmuure - L'Adieu Au Soleil is a weird experimental black metal I came across a while ago
Liturgy is another good experimental one
Sunn O))) is a great Drone/Doom, but more of just "heavy" rather than metal
Basically I stick to a few bands. I like when there's a combination of melodic, groove, thrash, and well timed and suited vocals.
So:
Metallica
Trivium
Megadeth
Killswitch Engage
Lamb of God
Mastodon isn't as straightforward or as hard as the others, but some of their tracks have really grown on me.
Trivium is crushing it lately with their touring and new album. And of course their classics like Shogun are really top notch. They just hit a great median between so many types of metal.

whoops "Murmuure is a weird experimental black metal band I came across a while ago" that should have read
Categorized by idk what...
Trve-ish - Ghost Bath, Wolves in the Throne Room, Burzum (the art but NOT the artist)
Hipster - Liturgy, Deafheaven (just saw them in concert and they were phenomenal)
Classic - Boris, Melvins (took me a while to finally warm up to them)
"Heavy music" - Sunn O))), The Body
Looks like Gold is in for a winning streak.
Oh.....wait.....
I don't listen to Metal that much anymore. BITD I was down with
Maiden
Megadeth
Helmet
Black Sabbath (I can still listen to them today)
Deafheaven: Ordinary Corrupt Human Love
August Burns Red: Phantom Anthem
Lately, it's been Panopticon, Falls of Rauros, and Eneferens.
