Yay or nay for mid marathon proposal? Ideally, I would vote end of the race proposal. Honestly, that would be my ideal way to get proposed to. I just thought it was really dumb for a guy to propose mid race. Thoughts???

I think it was selfish because after training for a marathon for a few months, and then completing it- especially if it is your first one, you kind of want the rest of the day to let it all sink in. Reflect in it, celebrate it, brag about it etc. After the race, everyone will be talking about the engagement, and the marathon finish accomplishment will be 2nd fiddle. Im not sure if this was her first one, but even if it wasn't, the douche took that away from her. She ran 4:2x so I doubt it crushed her PR goals or anything like that, but still, all about him.
why anyone thinks a proposal in any way connected to a marathon is cute or romantic is beyond me
but i also think the people who are saying that he took away "her day" by proposing during her marathon are also dumb
Screw a proposal mid-marathon. Go for the Pr. He's never gonna make it
Oh damn, really? This now, here... No freaking way, never!!! Never in the middle of a marathon, nor at the end of it. Never at a baseball stadium, or any other stadium...
It’s just such an immature act of narcissism that I will never understand... It’s just screams too much about me, me, and me again...
Maybe I’m old fashioned but I always thought the marriage proposal is more of an intimate act between two people, maybe with an addition of a few close friends and family members, but not the whole public, and cameras...
Everybody wants to be a f***ing celebrity nowadays... smh

This. A hundred times this.
I love my husband, but if he had tried to stop me in the middle of a race to propose ... well, we wouldn't be married.
I have never had a girlfriend, but when I do, I will propose at Starbucks right after talking about the greatest runner of all time, Bekele.
What a colossal @sshole this guy is!
I'm sorry, WHAT PLANET AM I ON!?!?
Strong NAY. Did not even care about her setting a pr lol. Like she is supposed to keep on racing after that?
I worry about anyone who thinks that a major proposal is something that should be shared with hundreds of thousands of strangers.
Tough decision. It may kill your chance to break 7 hours.
1. No one forced her to stop.
2. she wasn't an olympian or shooting for a BQ time.
These shrill feminists are whining on twitter about how it takes away from her accomplishments. There were a lot of people piling on about how the guy must be a selfish a-hole and basically insinuating that their marriage won't last because of this one thing.
it's stupid.

I guarantee neither of you nitwits has ever been with a woman.
Seriously, who proposed with their close friends or family members?
You people are assuming way to much about these people. Maybe she didn't care. I know with my first marathon, I didn't really care.

Look in the mirror, if you are looking for an idiot... I proposed, there were just the two of us, just as most people would do it... Family and friends found out later;)
I only accounted for the possibility that some want to make such a joyous announcement in a small circle of family and close friends... The “close” is the important part... It’s not my problem that you don’t have any...
It certainly doesn’t reek of narcissism as the guy in the original article... Btw, I don’t think it’s the girl’s fault that her guy is an idiot. But hey, maybe she liked it. I’m happy for them but they certainly wouldn’t be in my circle of friends.

Basically anyone who was serious with their time would not do this. So the whole "taking away her day" is silly if he knew she was just a casual runner. But I dont know that so if she was pursuing some kind of target time that meant something to her he should have known that and out of respect not have interrupted her goal. Otherwise it s just a cute, memorable engagement memory for two non serious joggers that they will remember forever
It's corny as hell, that's all I know.
I'm sure he knows his girlfriend (now fiance) and knew she would like it.
Anyways if you guys have issues with a mid Marathon proposal, how about a mid Marathon wedding?
