Did anyone see the NY Times marathon headline today? I saw it on Jon Gault's twitter and was disturbed by it. See it for yourself.

I agree with Jon. The headline is absurd. Can you imagine them saying "Golfer leaves the field in the dust." No, they would put their name down.
I know Keitany isn't a household name but she's a 4 time winner in NY. Her name is only one letter longer than winner so they in my opinion 100% should have said "Keitany leaves the pack out of the picture" instead of "Winner leaves the pack out of the picture."
It plays into the stereotype that you see regularly in our sport. "African runners" are far too often treated as a nameless mass. When they win, the implication is its the result of superior genetics but when an American like Flanagan wins they are heralded for their extreme dedication and hard work.
