No, Kitata just pushed the pace.
There was too much talk, they had to cease and desista.
It was his big heart to never giveup and win the race. He delivered one of the greatest performance in many years. Since 2013
between New York and Boston he has 3 gold, 2 silver, and 2bronze with also a 2:04:45 at the Dubai marathon.
Great consistence in marathon and really a fighter, he never gives up, watching the race last sunday at one point it was like he
was for second or third place but he was able to find new energy from his body to win a fantastic race.

Desisa was the first one in that last pack of 5 that I though would drop. After the Sub 2 debacle, I thought the guy was done but got to give him his props. He won his first Boston 51/2 years ago so he has been at this for a good while and is only one of 8 to win both NYC and Boston. even with 2 miles to go, he looked to be struggling and I thought Kam would lay the hammer down. A great performance,no doubt.
+1
These were my thoughts too. When it was Desisa and Kam, I reminded my kids that he was the guy from the Sub-2 documentary that the producers made to look like he didn't seem to give it his all. It was great that he came back from that to win a WMM.
How many guys have won WMMs or Championship medals over 5 years apart? I would guess the people on the list are among the all-time greats.
The first thing I noticed about him was he wore his black stocking hat inside out with the white tag visible.
Did he know he was doing this? Did he care? What does it mean?
Was it symbolic or a protest?
Was he imitating Minnie Pearl?
who?
Hype is when you make out something is way better than it actually is. If he'd lost by several minutes or dropped out, you can call it hype.

Checked the message board and not a single post discussing the extraordinary performance of Desisa. While people are starting thread on Lagat, Shalane, Molly Des, Ward, Mary etc.....
Why no one is discussing about 2:06 performance and why Kamwaror messed up inspite of having big credential. Was it the Vapourfly shoe, training, Breaking2 lessons, EPO?
Who’s Jarod Word?
So In all Seriousness, Lelissa Is a member of my club WSX in NYC and Ive spent quite some time in Ethiopia. Hes a good friend of mine. Hes so humble. When he dropped out in 2016 I was actually at the spot where he dropped out at mile 22 cheering and he knew me so I found him a jacket until van came. Later I went to his hotel and we ordered pizza and he gave me his ticket to elite dinner. This year when He came, he gave me a huge hug. I had to call him after the race and apologize that I wasn't around to celebrate his win with some cold ronas in the hotel because I had to rush to the airport. Needless to say I am so proud. His physio And I both expected kitata and Him to work together for the win. Kitata broke the pack. Lelisa proved people wrong. Everyone was talking about Kamwroror that they forgot that Desisa when healthy has a fierce kick and that's how he won boston 2 times. If you saw his interview he speaks much better English than in the interview however, he was nervous. I give him A+++ for effort on the interview as well.

This. Not that Desisa has ever had great running form, but watching him just hammer through central park with his entire body noticeably straining, face grimacing, and just visibly able to tell he was fighting like each step could be the one where he drops to the ground, was inspiring as ever. True showcase of how much heart he has.

I wish Bekele went to New York instead of Amsterdam when he wasn't ready and recovering from injury. The extra time would of been ideal for him to get ready. He would beat Desisa. Desisa makes me look like I have good form. I remember looking at him in breaking 2 and knew from the beginning he would blow up hard. His shoulder and arm movements look like he is sprinting up a steep hill all the time and he isn't relaxed at all. I'm surprised he actually ran 2:05. I also thought he was finished after breaking 2. Felisa is certainly seems to be done.
None of the World Majors invited Bekele. He did Amsterdam to try to show them what they missed out on.
Evan if that were true(then the WMM organisers are idiots) then Bekele could just sign up for the marathon himself like the rest of us have to do. I don't see why he needs an invite from some douche when we don't have to get invites to marathons.
It very simple, really. The memory of his 2014 loss to Kipsang is just too fresh on our minds. Desisa was hanging with Kipsang since mile 22 or 23 and Kipsang did not seem to be able to shake him off. Well, at least that was how it looked on TV. In reality, Kipsang was just very polite and he was cool with Desisa getting an honorable "very close" 2nd place. Kipsang is a generous dude. However. With about 400 to go, Desisa made a total douchebag move and attempted to pass Kipsang. Well, ok. Kipsang gave him a look and took off. Desisa simply disappeared from the screen. He was always finishing second in that race. It was his choice: to get a close 2nd or to get a distant, totally beaten and irrelevant 2nd place. Clearly, he went for the latter option.

Oh, heavens. Wigins, I friggin love you. This is why LetsRun is great.
What Desisa did was very surprising; not many picked him, I didn’t think he had a shot. Congrats to him!

who?
Exactly.
He's not a B grade, like Rupp or C grade like Ward and rest of Americans, so I get why inbred nativists like yourself wouldn't recognize actual talent.
According to this, his NY time was the equivalent of 2:03:44 in Berlin.

No. Just no.
Anybody get Lelisa Desisa and Feyisa Lelisa confused?
