Running is corrupt. The "winners" of NYC are not elite either, they're merely cheaters. This is why I and many others can't watch these races anymore.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Who is Jared Word?
Who?
I'd be extremely interested to see Jared run a course like Berlin. He is a tactician on the more difficult courses but I'd love to see him go for broke on a fast course.
He should run Berlin and really test his abilities!

While I am a Ward fan and you are obviously being silly with “sub-sub-elite” nonsense, I do *kind of* see your point about the Olympics. When the Kenyans and Ethiopians are limited to running only a handful of athletes, it isn’t really that huge of an event.
If the top 200 marathoners in the world were all to run the same race, Ward would not be top 50 and that’s just the plain truth. No American would outside of Rupp. Think of all of the “B-lister” Kenyans winning races in 2:07-2:09 seemingly every weekend. Mind boggling.
I'm a fan of the American marathoners but unfortunately we just aren't that good at the world class level. I hope Ward does well and Rupp too. The chances of us winning an Olympic medal in 2020 are quite low.
Not true. If anything, the chances in 2016 were lower as Rupp won bronze after placing 5th in the 10k on the track. And it was only his second marathon. If anything, Rupp will only be focusing on the marathon for Tokyo and will be better than he was in 2016. But this is Rupp, who is 6 minutes faster than the next best American in 2018. The rest of the US has no chance at a medal in Tokyo, but Rupp has a great chance.

I can understand why you’re not the biggest fan of Mormonism, but I respect the dude and his love for God, I strongly disagree with the particulars of his theology but as a runner he is the real deal and is very charismatic and down to earth.

I don't get why in a predominantly Christian nation anybody would find Mormonism hokey. Believers in Christ believe in a being who performed miracles, raised the dead, and even was resurrected from the dead. And if you believe in the Old Testament then you believe in the parting of the Red Sea and all sorts of other things that sometimes even sound crazy or contradictory. Are the Book of Mormon, which testifies of Jesus Christ, and Joseph Smith, who said he was Christ's prophet all that difficult to fathom for someone who believes in Christ?
I can understand an atheist being cynical about our beliefs but believe it or not it is other Christians that are the most vile. All I know is that our religion teaches us to worship Jesus Christ, love people, serve people, not be a burden on society, love and serve our countries, and love and support our families. Oh and by-the-way it also teaches us that we don't have the copyright on decency, truth, or God's love for his children. We are also not perfect and don't expect anybody else to be perfect. I don't see what's so radical or wrong with that. And if you don't believe that just show up to any of our services unannounced on Sunday and see for yourself.
As for Jared, I'm very happy for him. He's one heck of a runner.
Amen. MOST (and I don’t say all just in case, right now I can’t think of a single exception) of the doctrine of the LDS church has a pretty good precedent in the Bible. Religious clothing? Symbolic clothing? What about what the priests and Levite’s wore in the tabernacle?
All Christians will beat their chests with the Bible saying “gods not dead”, yet they mock the idea that he could call a modern day prophet. Didn’t the Pharisees reject Jesus with the same logic? Me thinks that we have found our modern day Pharisees.
Those who don’t recieve the servants of Christ wouldn’t accept Christ himself.
Sorry for the religious rant. Props to Jared, I have met him, and he is a world class runner and an even better person.

He also is the only statistics professor with a syllabus that only a marathoner could appreciate:
1) ANOVA
2) MANOVA
3) CANOVA
I don't know. A 2-way ANOVA might be okay at that university but a 3-way definitely would be banned.

Ward is a class act! You, not so much.
Met him once after a speech and I was less than impressed. Oh well, live and learn.

To each his own, but that's hard to believe. Either the content of your discussion with him was surface-level, or you must have met the wrong guy. He's seriously one of my favorite people.

Also, Jared is just a horrible, horrible name.
6th place at the Olympic Marathon = nonsense. #onlyonlrc
C'mon try a little harder than that. 2:12 @ NYC + his warm weather Trials + his warm weather Olympic 6th. Blame the lack of money in this sport. NYC/Boston pay the most and go after the top American talent. If Ward's last 4 marathons were all in Berlin and London I would guess he might have popped a sub-2:10 by now.
I'm running out for chipotle. Just wanted ya'll to know. i'll be right back so I can read more dbag threads.
He's "back" alright!
Waaaaay back. Over a mile behind Desisa and closer to 3 miles behind Kipchoge.
Mormon cult doesn't have the Sabbath, which is Saturday you fool.

Indeed. He may very well be a great person.
I like Jared. Seems like a good, hard working dude. He is easy to root for and I am glad to see this perfomance. Hopefully he can stay healthy over the next couple of years. He clearly has talent and has more in the tank. Good luck to him....
Glad to hear him talking up the rest of the US men and trying to show that they can help and improve each other despite competing against each other. The US women have fared really well from that approach so I glad to see someone for the men following their example.

Wow this has it all, don't it?
Apparently we can't allow his Olympic finish to have any impact on our opinion of him, despite the fact that his performance there was one of the most exciting for a non-Ruppian in recent memory.
Yeah, you use that in your evaluation of him and you're a hobby jogger.
Oh, and let's take a shot at his name while we're at it. I'm sure that matters.
