Does anyone know why? Forgive me for my ignorance.

what kind of mistakes did she make? Forgive my ignorance
From the article: "Athletics Activity Waiver ... "Olympic Redshirt" as she took off the 2016 season from collegiate competition to pursue a berth to the Olympics."
So it was her choice to redshirt two sessions, yet she's granted another year of eligibility? Couldn't then anyone claim chasing the Olympic dream as a reason to sit out?
Has she raced since she nearly passed out at the Big 10 meet?
I don't see her in the results for the Olympic Trials.
Yeah, im confused... she didnt end up even running in the trials because she was injured. How is that even fair? So could Allie Ostrander do the same?
This seems like a bogus way to just stay in college longer. Why not face the professional world? No offers? Not looking? How many different types of redshirts are there?
Well she's still in grad school, seems like it's the easy way to keep rolling for another year. Has anyone ever taken a redshirt like this for something other than the olympics? world champs? major marathon? Not sure what the benefits would be, seeing they can't accept money and continue in the NCAA
Go Erin! Cleanup next year! You don't know what you got til it's gone, take in the last years of college runnning!
Nothing new. This is the waiver New Mexico and others use to he 6th year for foreign athletes. It’s even easier for them because they don’t have university competition and their WC or OG trials are often all-comers meets.
I’ve often wondered why more Americans don’t do this. In years of Works Juniors, a college freshman could redshirt NCAA season, run US Jr’s and have 5 more years.
Then combine this with a gap year!

God has forgiven her.
No , that was it for her . The coaches sent her to the sports shrink on campus . Scary stuff
Think she got injured too . Another year of hearing how great Erin Finn is .
Go Blue

It is always necessary to ask how many semesters of eligibility has a collegian (not just her) missed due to health/injury issues. It is important to examine how many semesters a collegian has already competed. There needs to be a formulaic formula to determine who should be eligible for medical redshirt.
If someone has competed 9 seasons (3years X 3 seasons) should they be given a medical redshirt? I mean, haven't they competed enough?
What is YOUR magical number (number of seasons actually competed) for medical redshirt to kick in?
I mean, God never promised you 4 full years (12 seasons) of injury-free competition.
How say u?
Will she have completed graduate studies by the time she's done? Or is she a really bad student?
Looks like 2 indoor seasons lost to injury. 2 outdoor seasons to injury. 1 outdoor to the Olympic prep.
How many of you think this is sufficient for a medical redshirt?
I do, but barely. You?
Did Erin take a regular redshirt year, without any injury issues at any time?
30 yo senior LOL!
2 more kicks at the cat-hopefully she will put one together for a win--too bad--seems like injuries really prevented her from getting to her potential--2016 indoor she ran 15:30? for 5000m ...2nd to Seidel...then didn't seem to be the same after that 2nd place to Schweizer in 2016 cross-good luck to her!
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
